Hi there.

I am unsure what light to get lighting a 65cm L by 35cm W and 40cm D (sorry I work in metrics)

I can get a used MJ-L165 from a local store which has used it as a non use display model for £120

Or

I can get a new MJ-L260 for £169.99

I plan to keep mostly soft corals and a few LPS

Which should I go for?
Thanks

Hello!

First of all, there's no need to apologize for using the metric system, it's flat out better, and many of us here know how to convert units 🙂

I'm sorry your post didn't get a reply here yet, but I want to "bump this up" so your question can be answered.

I am totally unfamiliar with the lights you're questioning here, but I know other R2R members will be able to help you!

I wish you the best of luck with your build!

Do you like bluer or whiter tanks?
Look at the channel/ diode choices.
Both are sort of squarish so not the best fit for a rectangle. 60x60 is their listed sweet spot.
But 26 gal tank and each light is about 60 watts you have some light to spare on spillage
They both appear to use a " Kessil logic" like system so picking a look will not involve an output compromise. Also makes the bluish whitish main spectrum a bit less of an issue.

Want a bluer look from a light with a whiter main color? Fine. No power lost.

For fun let's ask AI

Those are budget lights. 😆

If you can get Nicrews they have more power for roughly the same price. Controllers extra but only $50 US.

There are some simple panels in the wattage /spectrum range.
80w $270 US.
Looks fine for a shallow-ish tank.
The style is not as popular as the larger wattage generally more focused lighting.

Power, spectrum, style, even where you buy it ( import, local) is your choice.

Keep the basics in mind and go for it.
Oh and never use just 1 opinion.
😆

Thanks again.

I found a used Ai prime 16HD yesterday £120 pounds used on ebay. I have seen a video of it work and all the channels seem fine, as well as the unit, no discolouration on the lens. The only down fall is that its 3 years old.

Would you say this is good? I mean I can add another one further down the road to get better lighting cover as 1 is probably underpowered on the edges.
