Well, I finally dropped the dosh on a new tank. I did want something from WB but the 90 X Marine was on back order for another month but I think I committed a faux pas… I got a Red Sea 300 G2+.

It was good balance of tank space and footprint seeing as I’m in an apartment and not a house. I ordered a reefmat 500, reefrun 6000 and 60lbs of sand. I’m going to seed with my current rocks and drop some old filter media into the sump. Also going to reuse the LEDs I have currently (Maxspect MJ-L165 Jump blue) and hang them on the tank with the mount arms.

I have an in tank protein skimmer that I can drop in the sump or just buy one second hand but with the reefmat, I’m not terribly worried as solids will be removed before they get into the sump. I’ll still have a skimmer though.

As for the tank, I have plenty of buckets and have them staged, along with towels in the event the tank busts. I did my research on these tanks for probably the last 3 months and the local FB saltwater group had a few members who let me come see their tanks, told me of the issues and their experiences with the tanks. Saw some in store and I have professional experience with the late G1s and early G2s.

I’m nervous but excited. Haven’t been contacted by the tank shippers yet but my order is due to arrive tomorrow.

I’ll be going from a 34G AIO cube to a 65G display and 19G sump. Never had a sump before. I’m kind of ready for people to bash me for buying a Red Sea, but everything else I wanted was on back order and they had an OK sale on the 4th.

I wish I could afford a Red Sea. They’re beautiful. 65 gallons is a great size. My first tank was a 65.

I was fortunate that I got stock options from my employer and I’m using that. Your tank looks(ed) awesome! I did debate building my own but I feel like it might be easier to do on a smaller tank.

Congrats on getting a new tank. It’s an exciting time and especially to have a sump.

Some people will disapprove of your choice, but it’s your hobby. At least you’ve done the research and are prepared.

Wish you the best.

Saia is the freight handler for this with an ETA of 7/15. If they only deliver on semi trailers, it ain't gonna fit down my street. Will probably have to go pick it up myself or have some other company haul last mile. I'll see if Saia can deliver on a box truck but my hopes aren't high.

Coming down to the wire. Probably gonna go to the saltwater shop closest to work and pick up the RSK 300 or RSK 600 DC version and a controller.

Enjoy the journey!
Red Sea sells a ton of tanks throughout the world so it’s natural to get more issues.

The seams issue has never been proven to be substandard workmanship and seam leaks can materialize through several other possibilities like metal glass scraping to close to the inside seal, weak or uneven stands, weak or uneven floors all of which place extra stresses on the glass and seals.

Enjoy your tank.

I spent a significant of time leveling this monster yesterday. Everything is within 0.01 to 0.02 in/ft. Diagonals are 0.00 and front to back is 0.00. I’m under 0.096 degrees across the entire tank.
