I need some help.
I am building a 180G [72 x 24 x 24] mix reef tank and will use 3 16K Maxspect razor. I had two on my my 90G and my LPS did well. I only had a few SPS and they did not do well. The lights reached max intensity for 4 hrs at 65-70%.
In the new 180G tank, i would like to have a bit more SPS corals and have been thinking about adding two 60 inch T5 bulbs, one in the front and the other behind the razors. All this under a canopy.
Questions for you:
1: Is this necessary/will it make a difference?
2:Who has done this or similar additions and what lighting program are you using?
3. What color bulbs should i be considering?

Much thanks.

T5s I've heard have a better affect on LPS. To keep my SPS alive and colourful I run my razors at about 80%, LPS corals hate this so I make shady areas to place them in. In the 180, how far will your SPS be from the lights, mine are about a foot away from mine.

I have not done the aqua scaping as yet, but i i reckon they will be toward the top, about a foot. Lights will be about 6-8 inches above the water

I keep mine at max intensity for 7 hours a day at CH1 65% Ch2 90%. Possibly you may have been light starving your sps. Mine are doing great and are between 12"-18" below the fixture that is on the factory legs. My lps are low near the bottom of an 18" tank (so about 20"-25" away) and my zoas are placed about 18"-22" from the light and love it.

I have a single razor over my 40b at work and all my sps are growing like crazy. I have them ramp up to 100 on both channels for about an hour right in the middle of the day.

when i used the razor on my 50 cube .. i left the lights on for about

Blue channel : 100% for 12 hours with one hour ramping on each side ( so blues stayed at 100% for 10 hours)
White channel : 80% for 6 hours with one hour ramping on each side ( so whites stayed at 80% for 4 hours)

whatever sps i had at that time colored up beautifully .. and my lps didnt mind the 100% on blues

Nessesary no. Would they help benefit, sure. I've been happy running straight led for the past year with imo decent growth and color.
