Was looking at a mccosker wrasse at the lfs. It was in one of those small long row tanks you normally see at the stores. Fish was lying on its side not really moving. Store owner said that's normal. Any way to tell if the fish is sick or normal? Seems like a gamble.

It depends, if the fish has been there for awhile then that would be very odd. However, if it just arrived then it could just be that it was stressed.
If you like it, keep an eye on it and monitor it. Wrasses can be difficult shippers and may take a few days before they act normally again.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
