No. They can be kept alone or together. The benefit is that they look like a coral cat, they don't need to be kept with them.

I mean as the juvenile coral cats prefer to have others than to be alone, but as adults turn solitary. So it could possibly use the gobies for company as a juvenile?

They are juveniles for such a short time that it doesn't matter.

Oh [emoji14] well mine is about 6cm max at the moment. Is there a rough size they begin to change?

At that size it should have already begun to change. First behaviorly, then pattern.

I was talking engineer gobies. But they wouldn't be social with a coral cat at that size.

Coral cats will schol until about 9". Engineer gobies are only social until about 4". Once engineer gobies reach 4" they wouldn't be social with the coral cat, and they would only be social if they were about the same size.

Ah, thanks. And if I was to get some engineer gobies, would it be one or two, but no more?

1-2 is all I would do. A dominant pr will be aggressive to any odd specimens left over in all but the largest tanks.

Not 100% sure. I haven't found anything on whether they are sequential hermaphrodites or born a fixed gender.

So are there any visual differences in sexes to look for?

No, they are not sexually dimorphic.

So try and get a hand on a pair, or is there much success in just putting two together? Also do they get along with an eel?

If you want a pr, the most sure-fire way is to get a small group and they will pr off on their own. Also, they are fine kept singly.

They coexist fine with eels.

No problem.

What is a preferred food for juvie coral cats? This one ate like a trooper for the first few feeds but now won't take my food. I have been feeding NLS Thera A pellets, mysis with spirulina and garlic, artemia brine with spirulina and garlic, angel and pygmy angel frozen formulations, mullet, whiting, mussels, basa and a little prawn.
