My favorite reef buddy.

I had the camera out while doing stuff to the reef with her today and she was having a ball just hanging with me by the tank. Snapped a few shots.

If I would have known grandkids were so great, I would have had them first! 🙂

Thanks!

While I know a lot of people post about their equipment, most of the time it all happens within and spread out throughout the thread. This way makes it so much simpler.

Nice catch! I didn't even know. Who's throwing me a party?

Now do you know why I started the countdown and you said you were all confused? 🤣

This is all the same equipment you started the tank with, right?

Thanks!

I never figured out it was the countdown. So simple too. It was killing me, LOL.

Not all but most. Added the Meridian 11", Auto Feeder, Ozone, backup battery, AWC, Nero 7's, Trident, and battery backup afterwards. Equipment I started this tank with was either new or almost new from the tank I had for a couple of months prior to this one.

Can I make the suggestion to add this info (dates changed), along with "beginning" and "current" pics of the tank and set up? I know that I might be a PITA but, from my point of view, it's cool when a person (me) gets to see a glimpse of what the system began as, what it is now and has the understanding that they will learn how it got from one to the other while reading the rest of the tank thread.

Haha! I actually started doing that (dates) and it was a PITA and stopped. I still intend to do that when the "I feel like it" kicks in. I love the suggestion. 👍

I just hope I remember to take all of my own suggestions when I start my tank thread. Chances are high that I'll forget something, or many things, when the time comes.

Pro tip: Take a ton of pictures. I go back and look at dates of pictures all the time to remember when I did something new or different. I also have an excel event log I try and keep updated.

PSA: Don't forget to clean your weir.

I've been meaning to scrape and wire brush my weir for a while now to get rid of some of the build up. It wasn't that bad, but it needed it. Today I went ahead and did it. After cleaning, my tank level went down close to 1/2"! In a tank my size that's over 3 gallons of water. My sump went up about 1-1/2".

I was really surprised how much water my weir was holding back. I was wondering why I was getting increased salt creep around the top edge. Now I know.

Good afternoon—excuse me, please—I have the same tank. As I understand it, you are running two skimmers simultaneously?
Good afternoon to you as well Genvid.

Yes, I'm running 2 skimmers currently. I don't think I need to but had an extra skimmer and through it in there. I have a high bioload and feed a lot so I was wondering if the extra skimmer would provide additional nutrient control. The jury is still out on that. At the very least, it provides more O2 for the tank.

Thank you very much for your reply. I currently have an Akula 160 UKS reef aquarium skimmer—left over from my old tank—and I was thinking of adding a Nyos unit as well. I’d like to buy an Australian Sea Torch 220, but I would have to wait until September for it. So, in the meantime, I’ll install another small skimmer.

Get a good measurement of the footprints. Mine are in there pretty tight. I think the 220 is a good size assuming a high bio load. I’m running a 200 Octo and does a great job. I think a 220 would have done fine as well. If you get too big, the skimmer loses efficiency. Sizing right is the way to go.

All of the SeaTorch equipment looks top-notch. It will be interesting to see the reliability and longevity of the equipment and company. My understanding is that they have made a big dent in the market in Australia already. They had been selling all their equipment on AliExpress until towards the end of last year. Then things shifted and now it's all sold through SeaTorch Australia. Except the lights. They are still available on AliExpress.

Collectors Corals is going to be the US distributor and are offering 20% off all preorders. I think you may know this already as you mentioned September waiting until September to get the skimmer.
