Thursday AD update.

I re-positioned the rock the AD sits on so the orientation is a little difference. No red arrows this week Chris due to that. Coral is doing well and part of the issue with the base was some aiptasia I discovered and killed.

Regardless of position, that's a lot of growth and color for 6 months! Actually, technically, 5.5 months. While I follow the grow-out thread, I haven't really paid a lot of attention to it recently. Are you still the frontrunner in the competition?

I’m up there but there are 2 or 3 other very nice ones including Zack’s - @Red_Beard.

Kind of a sad day as the Bird's nest has outgrown the tank. Removed and kept a couple of frags. Being that I have Dinos, I didn't want to give to another reefer or LFS and cause them issues.

This sucker was about a 12" ball.

Relative to most other sps, these grow super fast so we will be doing it again in under a year. It’s tough to get rid of good looking healthy coral, though.

Birdsnest have always been one of my favorite. It is surprisingly hard to find around here though. I would love to get a chunk of regular green, pink, and paradise!

Mine was, I'm fairly certain, a Blue Zing - hybrid between the Bird of Paradise and a Green.

I really like it as well so I kept a couple of pieces. Pretty sure it was just the regular green.

Put some dry rock I had where the big colony was and put a couple of frags there.

The piece I kept has already grown too big....

So difficult to get a good picture of this thing.

White growth tips, blue upper polyps, purple lower polyps, green flesh. Thick branches like a Stylophora so it's definitely not a standard Bird of Paradise Birdsnest.

Man, that thing is chunky! Love it. Yeah mine is just the standard.

This one grows stupid fast. It slowed down for a bit but started getting solid on top instead of branching. I think it had hit it's PAR ceiling or something.

Even yours is chonky compared to what I'm used to calling a bird's nest.

I've had one that looked like that. I think it's just another variety. Mine wasn't I thick as his, but very dense in branches. The reflection was cool on the top of the water.

The one I've had, several times but it always crashes on me, is commonly called Fiji Green Bird's Nest, or Fiji Pik Bird's Nest if you get the pink variety. I really like the coral and it grows quickly and well but then it always crashes on me by STNing.

Yours is very pretty, just a different species I guess. It does look bird's nesty when it tables out. I think I used to have an 20" diameter coral skeleton of that, or a very similar, species from Indonesia back in the 80s-90s. It weighed a ton. A shame you had to let it go.

This one grows like a weed. I had a bunch of broken pieces just sitting in the sandbed behind the rock and it was just growing there. Mine is a really good beginner coral or a good one for a tank that has issues with birds nests.
