Maybe he got spooked and hit the glass. Unfortunate thing that can happen with wrasses.
Youre probably right, shame on me for overlooking the screen top. I have 2 other wrasse in my DT so I do know this about them.

Wrasses are known to get spooked or jump and injure their spine and its a very common thing that happens to longer wrasses like that one.
