Hello just received a Melanurus wrasse and when he was received he was sick and/or injured. He seems to not be able to move his back end. It has been over 24 hours with no signs of progress. Anyone have any recommendations?

Not sure how much can be done here. Was the fish like this prior to putting in the tank?

It's a She. That's a female.

That's really sad. This seems to be a recurring trend with wrasses lately.

I wonder where the heck these things are coming from or what these people are doing.

I don't think so. I think the fish will probably end up dying. I don't want to act like I'm a fish medical expert because I am not, but that looks like spinal injury to me. The fish appears to be pretty nice otherwise. No visual signs of disease anyway and whatever happened must have happened in shipment from maybe people throwing packages around. I've seen what they do first hand.

Sorry to see this. I wonder of it's a case of this

This is becoming a recurring trend if so. I've seen several recent threads about it.
This fish looks to be healthy other than not being able to move his body.

Yea sucks I really wanted a Melanurus wrasse.

I can’t see the video, but I had a yellow coris wrasse for over a year, and it wasn’t a big jumper, but it would try to jump out of the tank from time to time randomly and pretty aggressively. I think it slammed into something or the lid and paralyzed itself because I came home one day and it was getting blown around by the current and kept flipping upside down, which sounds like what you might be describing. I tried giving it time to heal but eventually I chose to put it down because it seemed to be suffering. I hope that’s not the case here. But if there’s no signs of disease, it sounds like an injury.

I wonder is this fish was shipped in this condition or if it developed during transit. Not sure if this is something that comes on slowly or instantly.

EDIT: that's me assuming it's the disorder. I suppose and injury is still a possibility?

I've seen how they throw packages around first hand when they think no one is looking.
It seems to me like the fish was freaked out in transit and injured himself in a panic.
I mean, being shaken around for 24 hours in a box has got to be a SOB.

I can’t see the video on my end, but with new halichoeres I’d be looking at 3 things:
1. UNWD
2. Uronema
3. Stressed during transit, attempted to dive into the “sand” but hit its head on the bag/box instead.

For either disease, there really isn’t any treatment and is almost always fatal. Even with an injury, it’s largely a game of wait and see.
