I want to see how many people run Halides and have successful euphyllia. I am heavy into euphyllia and want to put my halides over my tank and basically looking for advice and of course photos!!

No photos available . Halides are often described as the best lights for growing coral. I recently took in a fast growing torch to a LFS, it was filling in a large space and I wanted more room for other stuff.

If you are trying to farm / propagate coral for a business then halides are a good choice. The corals show more color under led blue, but I suspect they grow a bit slower.

Here's a pic of my frogspawn and hammer, both started from a single polyp about 6 years ago, now the sizes of volleyballs, all under MH light. My goni's, acan's, favia also all love the light. LPS corals grow like weeds under MH light

LED’s are cooler (F/C degrees) and the spectral output can sustain corals, but MH has a broader range of photons, just hotter which means you need more coolant than led does.

What halides are you running and what size tank sir? Beautiful euphyllia by the way!!

Hamilton Tech 150w 20k bulb on a 40b.
You know how much PAR they are getting?
I'm going to be running a 36" dual 250w with the XHO strips over a 48"x24"x20" that I ordered from @glasscages

No issues under halides for me. Most of these are recently new pieces but doing well under halides/leds.

What lights are you running? PAR level on your euphyllia?

They will love halides. Mine used to grow like crazy under 150 and 250w 14k phoenix bulbs. Led has come a long way but halides and t5 sure does grow coral like a champ. The electric bill, heat and bulb replacement costs i don’t miss though.
I get the cost, but if one is running 500watts of LED versus 500w halide...same wattage, same electric cost, same heat. LEDs put out heat too. Unless you are running 400w halides 8" off the water, the heat disappates before really heating the water.

I'm not trying to start an argument, I like hearing others views/opinions is all. I ran halide in the past with no increase in water temp or electric bill.

I just changed my tanks to led! I’ve been halides my entire life and all my LPs love them! I had torches in 500 par and hammers around 350 and they grow like weeds!

I too ran halides and switched to LED. My Euphyllia did great under halides and the nice thing was it didn’t matter where you stuck them. I had torches less than 3” under the water to ones 20+” down at the bottom of the tank.

I don’t have any pics but my torches got BJD all I have is hammers which are doing okay for the most part currently (fighting a Dino battle)

I have a few colonies under halides in my display and as the others have said yes they grow like weeds, almost too fast of growth on this one torch (might be frogspawn). It sits about 12 inches under the waters surface between 2 400 watt Radium’s. Went from 3 heads to about 60 heads in 3 years.

I miss my 14k Phoenix! Best bulb ever made!

Your running Meridians now brother! Love your tank. I guess I'm old school and prefer the "on/off" of a halide and not have to tinker with a spectrum if that makes sense. I'm undecided still at this point. I have an awesome lead on a brand new Meridian 35.
