meteor shower cyphastrea question

How long does it take typically for a new frag of cyphastrea to show its polyps? I started off under the advice that it would be fine high up in the 30G tank under a 20K 150W mh but after a couple days of no polyps showing and the sky blue starting to brown out, I relocated it towards the bottom. It looks better over the past few days than it has but there has yet to be polyps extended out. Any experience?

Can't help you with the time, mine showed almost immediately, but it was a well-healed frag. However, I can tell you that it prefers low light as you have started to find out.

CJ is right on with the location near the bottom. The only time I fragged mine for a friend I broke off two polyps. it took several days for them to open again but after about a week those two opened fine..

i fragged one and glued it to the back wall of one of my nanos. it has been there for nearly 6 months. polyps took about a month to open up nicely. then it sat with zero growth for atleast 4 months. in the last 6-8 weeks thought it is exploding. it has grown off the frag plug and up the wall enough that new polyps are already showing. not sure what the deal was but it sure seems happy now.

its about mid way up the back wall under 175 halide.

PS: the goal is to have it like a friend of mines nano that it cover the entire back wall.

I beg to differ with the location. I have mine about 12" below 250w DE 14k MH and it has great color and grows like crazy. I had it midway up in a tanbk with T5 and it looked OK but nothing like it does right now. May just be my tank....
