MIA Sand Sifter

HELP! Brought home a golden head (blue stripe) sleeper goby last night. He got right to workin the sand and even participated in evening feeding grabbing mysis out of the water column. But, this morning he’s MIA and I see no caves/burrows under rockwork; not in the sump; tank is covered. My rockwork should be stable as it was placed on egg crate before adding sand. I’ve got fine (oolite) sand. I was advised by the LFS that the fine sand may be better for it since there’s less chance of it getting stuck in its gills while sifting. Bottom line, should I be worried that I see no evidence of the new fish?

My sand sifting gobies went missing for 2 days when I first got them. then they started to explore and I would see them out all of the time unless sleeping.

New fish often hide for the first day or two, especially gobies, its very normal, just leave it alone it adapt to your tank. Feed your tank at roughly the same time every day, they quickly learn the feeding schedule which, I feel, makes them feel more at ease.

Sleeper gobies are notorious carpet surfers. I know your tank is covered but if there is any small opening they can find it.

I’m feeling paranoid after a watchman goby I got soon after setting up my tank did the same thing and never reappeared. Thanks.

He’s out and about doing his thing. Apparently he’s made a home beneath a rock where it’s hard to see. Thanks for all the input. Good advice.

Interesting...I added a golden head sleeper goby last night and have not seen him today. No sign of him.

These fish like to burrow like nothing else. I've seen them dig out quite intricate caves and tunnel systems. Unless they're on the carpet or in the sump - there's a high probability that they're off terraforming.
