Good after noon y’all, just saw brightwell just released microbacter purple. I see it will feed your corals while adding beneficial bacteria. Just wondering if anyone got there hands on it and see if there is any long term benefits down the road.

No you didn't, what you did is imply anyone not buying microblift is an idiot. Where as you cannot even see how microblift is a marked up product. It does not matter which is more or less expensive. They are both marked up for profit. You are buying a marked up product just as everyone else is. Like microblift puts 5ml of bacteria per bottle and the others do 3ml, now they have more bacteria in the bottle right? Does it matter the dilution of the bacteria? Does the additional bacteria actually help or is 3ml per bottle plenty? No one in here is a microbiologist that can actually quantify any if this stuff. Having a "mix" of bacteria is a single solution is possible. But I would assume most if not all that stuff is competing inside that bottle. Or, they mixed dead bacteria in a bottle for you and marked it up. (very common practice)I said that people can buy what they want too.
Well based on what Kenneth said above.. it seems pretty clear they are different ;-)How are they different then? Like I said previously I was told that they might be different strains so what strains are different? How are they cultured differently? That analogy you used is exactly my point, you are paying for a name not functional differences.
Can you provide the actual Microbe Lift product? I used their bacteria bottle before but did not see any difference. Maybe I should try what you're suggesting.IF you search microbelift on this forum you will see posts dating back over a decade talking about it being used exactly as hydrospace is marketing it. Microbelift is multiple strains of purple non sulfur bacteria as is Hydro space. If hydrospace is claiming they are different then they should make a published third party comparison. Until then if they are sold for the same purpose and both contain multiple PNS species they are the same and you are being fooled by marketing.
Hi Kenneth,We developed the PNS HomeGro kit for that very purpose. :winking-face: Been out there for three or four years now, with great success rates.
Yes I did post 33, nor did I call anyone an idiot. I don't know why you are attacking me like such a fanboy. I didn't insult your favorite product or anyone else on a personal level so don't put words in my mouth.. It is a fact microblift is half the price and has been around longer. It is also a fact that people on this forum have been using special blend for a very long time for the same purposes that hydrospace is advocating their product for. It is also a fact that they are basically decades behind microblift in the bacteria game as is microbacter. All I said was there are cheaper alternatives that have been around longer. Doubt I'll get an apology for you lying about what I said but it's ok . I'm glad I didn't say anything about lighting options. @telegraham sent me the analysis for both. I hope he weighs in here. I didn't say Jack either about corporations so don't know why you even brought that up. For everyone else buy what you want but do your research instead of "hurr durr ours is totally different and better it costs more because of that " and their fanboys. No you didn't, what you did is imply anyone not buying microblift is an idiot. All you did was provide information that was not valid to the conversation and say you spoke with an unnamed source that said microblift was better that the others. I assume that was a call to microblift themselves.
In the end, Purple Non Sulfer Bacteria is a good addition to reef tanks. If you want to die one the sword for Microblift marketing vs another brands marketing, go ahead. But you are just buying a product made by a corporation also. Marked up with hype like everything in reef tanks.
I do not understand how you can flip all this like you have. If you must know, I feel you decided to be snarky from the jump. You still are being snarky now. You are putting words in my mouth, not the other way around. Then calling me a liar....smh. You did imply not buying microblift is foolish. So, I never wrote you called anyone an idiot either, I wrote you implied it, which you clearly did. So who needs reading comprehension? No, you will not get an apology from me.Yes I did post 33, nor did I call anyone an idiot. I don't know why you are attacking me like such a fanboy. Just tell her your emptying the skimmer bucket... It's not that bad (smell) Has the scent of a National Park restroom...The purple bacteria smells really bad. There is no way I could use it indoors without a lot of complaint from the wife and rest of family. So it's a no go.
Yeah the Microbe Lift Special Blend smells like a sewer but works great. I keep it on a high shelf and does by hand periodically. I have used massive amounts (ie, probably close to $300 in total in the last two years) of Microbacter7, Dr Tim’s One and Only, Dr Tim’s Waste Away, and ZeoBac and Microbe Lift is the only one where I notice my tanking looking nicer. The purple bacteria smells really bad. This thread got spicy!I hope he weighs in here.
You literally said I didn't say buy what you want and you previously quoted me where I said people can buy what they want. That makes you a liar. You definitely came at me first unprovoked. If you have that defensive attitude in real life I'm sorry for you. Hope your day gets better.I do not understand how you can flip all this like you have. I am not a fanboy of any product, But I do not take kindly to people with unprovoked snarky comments. I am also not intimidated by Internet trolls that spew out of context stuff and use gaslighting as a tactic. I am not using terms to try and anger you more. Just using your own logic against you sir. You wrote stuff, I responded. People can read the posts and see what happened.
Have wonderful evening. I wont be engaging with you anymore.
ThanksThis thread got spicy!
My thoughts:
- Based on the manufacturer's recommendations, the monthly costs of dosing ProBio, Special Blend, and MB Purple are wildly different. That's math that's worth a look.
- The marketing for PNS ProBio has changed as the product has evolved, it's a bit of a moving target, so I guess I'll need to sample another bottle.
- I don't know what "high-density" means, as lot-specific spectrophotometric analysis or viable plate count data has not been provided, nor do I know that that density is maintained lot over lot.
- The bottles of PNS ProBio and Special Blend that I tested were polycultures. Lots of different bugs in both bottles, and the data can be reviewed over on Humblefish.
- "Strains" are mentioned in this thread, but I think most of y'all mean species. AquaBiomics does not test down to the strain. Only species.
- If I remember correctly, Hydrospace obtained the rights of a specific strain of PNSB (was it B111?) for use in ProBio. Maybe there's legitimate value there, or maybe that's a marketing tool used for differentiation.
- Much like "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration....," these products have not been proven to help you be a better reefer. There is evidence that they may help, but doing nothing might help. Dosing NOPOX/vinegar/vodka might help. Water changes might help.
- If dosing bacteria makes you feel like you're doing something good for your tank, I say do it.
And as you might expect, those who received their free bottles of MB Purple are already touting the product's value. After a few weeks. Without sharing data. The bottle I bought from SWA will arrive (maybe) this week, and I'll get the sample sent out posthaste.
You haven't met my wife. She is a clean freak. LOL.Just tell her your emptying the skimmer bucket... It's not that bad (smell) Has the scent of a National Park restroom...
Bought it to help fight off some dinos that showed up. Does special blend work for that?Special Blend for the win
Been around forever
Proven
For me personally it Has helped outcompete cyano in numerous tanks , balances system, helps colonize bacteria
Add some NiteOut and you’re on fire!!!
Yes that's what I use it for. I'm currently using it now. I'll post before and after pics in a few days.Bought it to help fight off some dinos that showed up. Does special blend work for that?
I used Special Blend to deal with a massive Dino outbreak after I did a tank reset earlier this year. Got rid of the Dino’s in slightly less than a week.Yes that's what I use it for. I'm currently using it now. I'll post before and after pics in a few days.
