those are sludge digestion mixes.
although they might can work for cycling/nitrification (many aerobic groups also convert ammonia to nitrate in their metabolism beyond the typical nitrifers/nitrosomonas etc) the design of those items is intended to lessen the work for the aquarist by aiding in the breakdown of detritus to smaller particles so that somehow they're removed from the system vs sinked down into the bed as heavy mud.
In lake and stream management, limnology, sludge digestion mixes/chems are used routinely to unclog rivers and lakes that have massive built up sludge stores and are causing fish kills/environmental imbalance.
its too impractical to do water changes/siphoning and bed cleaning on a lake so they have to dump in microbes and chemical oxidizers to assist in that breakdown and then natural systems in the lake bind it/convert it into plants etc vs sitting there sucking out oxygen from the system as active waste mud.
I personally would never ever need to own or purchase any form of bottle bac for my reefing, since in nanos a simple water change and bed cleaning does what that doser does, but better and free.
those dosers are handy for large system management, but then again Id just design a system to handle its own detritus removal and not need a doser for it.
Those dosers can sometimes be used to fight/compete other invasions like cyano and dinos, they're competing microbes in some cases.

I haven’t used that product but have used Dr. Tim’s One and Only and Waste Away. I did this with a 3 day blackout period to get rid of dino’s. They both worked well for me and this product seems similar. I don’t subscribe to the fewer water changes, but what I’ve used has helped with my tanks cleanliness. I guess it would be akin to carbon dosing, but instead of feeding the existing bacteria so they reproduce, you are adding bacteria directly.

better question: for those who will never require nor use nor buy it, how are they building reefs? since its an optional item, its nice to know how to de option it, and spend the money on a frag
the way to never need it is to clean your tank periodically vs letting detritus build up inside.
consider if you want a sandbed or not, no sandbed means its easier to clean up since its on glass and the waste can be removed.
sandbed means you need to clean it occasionally to keep it in control if you want the best chance of success.
you should arrange rocks not as a giant inaccessible stack, that builds up waste, but arrange your system in a way that every inch of it can be accessed for cleaning, just occasionally, if required.
Ergo: use of that item doesnt mean your tank left uncleaned will work and the microbe lift fixes it for you without work. Those dosers merely give people who reef by storage (and are under invasion accordingly) a chance at fixing things, by avoiding more work.
Even when used as basic care replacement, this or any bottle bac doser attains the desired results 4% of the time.
*some are using it for dinos battles or bad cyano not related to waste, thats legit*
96% they still must clean, eventually.
