Might be a silly question

Let it grow on the frag . Otherwise you might damage the frag
 
Typically leave it on the plug for easy moving incase the frag is not happy in the current spot. Once the coral started growing then I'd glue it either with the plug or cut the stem off the plug to glue in its permanent spot.
 
My mother doesn't like the plug look in her tank. She only has a 10 IM. So I put them on the rocks for her. NOW her cloves are taking over and I told her LOL I told you so. I don't mind the disc look.
