Vintage Dental X-Ray. The head has an x-ray tube (Coolidge tube) and the base a massive step up transformer and oil filled capacitors that feed the tube 25,000 Volts at ~10ma or maybe a bit more in the old inefficient models circa 1930

Grandfather was a dentist… thus the gallon jugs of mercury (amalgam fillings).

That got me thinking about the mass of a gallon of elemental Hg.
According to AI
Mercury, with a density of 13.534 kg/Liter, times a volume of 3.785 Liters/gallon, would have a mass of 51.226 kg/gallon.:eek::cool:

Yep - and 40 years ago it didn’t cost anything to dispose of. I can’t imagine what one would do with that much now with regard to disposal. I think we simply donated to another dental lab. Heck it’s hard to get rid of a broken mercury thermometer or tilt switch if you are honest about it.
