I currently do water changes by hand but I can no longer be bothered, especially when it's nearly 50 degrees centigrade outside!

My mixing station is outside and I used to carry the water in.

It's about 12 meters away from the tank and so now I'm looking for a pump which not only mixes my water, I'm after one which will pump it to my tank, my question is, how do I stop the flow of water without switching off the power to the pump?

If I run a hose with a shut off valve from the pump outside to my tank and when it's at the correct level I turn the valve to shut the water off, what will happen to the pump as its continuing to run?

What type of pump do I need and one that is somewhat resistant to salt water?

Why not use a utility pump combined with an outdoor smart outlet? That way you can shut off the pump with your mobile device. Check out the video and product links below:

I use this for mixing, I just leave it in the brute trash can, it creates a great vortex/whirlpool: https://amzn.to/49UuMle
