Ford trucks are good. I won't dispute that for sure!!

Didn't mean to rile you up. I was just trying to stay random.

BTW I must have replayed that missed M St field goal at the end of the 1st half 20 times.

Ranger did not have a Japanese engine they came in 2.4, 3.0, and 4.0. The 3.0 and 4.0 were as American as they come. Bulletproof engines. I don't know much about the 4 banger but Mazda's partnership used ford parts not visa versa, by and large.

The Mazda b2000 was 95% Ford ranger

Haha no big deal, just firing back! All in fun it's borderline impossible to get me truly riled up! :)

I won't knock Japanese engineering. Toyota Tacoma is my favorite, and had always been my dream vehicle. I can't wait till I can another one one day. They completely redesigned it this year.

Drive a Ford, drive the best. Drive a mile and walk the rest.

Sorry, that's the one I know. Haha. Never owned a Ford, but I learned to drive stick on an 85 F150. Mitsubishi, Infiniti, Honda and Subaru. Honda is the most reliable of that pack by far.

I like it!

Here's my Ford story. Purchased a new 76 Mustang II with the 2.3 L overhead cam engine. I think it was a German engine, but not sure. The cam broke, and Ford realized they had a problem, and extended the warranty to 36 thousand miles. The root cause of the problem was lack of oil to the top of the engine causing damage to the cam, in some cases snapping in half. They never addressed this oiling issue, only putting in new cams. Long story short, six cams later, and the car approaching 36K miles, I dumped it. Oh, one cam lasted one day, and then back into the dealership. With many arguments back and forth with Ford, I eventually told the Regional Manager I'd never buy another Ford again. End of story.

This thread was oddly dead again for several days. Feeling yuck, laying on the couch watching the epic battle of M. State V Iowa. Guess who I'm rooting for
It quit showing up on my subscribed threads.... could be the reason

Aside from mustangs, ford cars were largely moderate at best until mid 2000s, honestly. The Taurus was always a great bang for your buck too.

But yeah.

Too often I hear and see Japanese cars that are trash. The difference is the demographic. People that are "car people" rarely drive Japanese. They drive German and domestics. The Japanese car target market by and large is vastly different.

My in laws for example have 5 Japanese cars and no idea that they've caused them more problems than any of my Fords because they don't know what's normal wear and what's ridiculous. That's because they aren't car people and don't notice big issues. Nothing wrong with buying cars just go get A to B and not being a "car guy". Just different and ignorance bias sets in. In the 90s Japanese cars trumped domestics with reliability frequently. Now they ride the reputation and enjoy the statistical biases due to differences in reporting, target market demographics, and polling methods.

For example, my brother in law's 2003 Honda Accord has 120k miles and the transmission shifts like a 500k mile plow truck, it has a bad rod knock and valve tick, and is an absolute mess. They are none the wiser. I advised them to take it in to get serviced because no one noticed any of that, somehow.

Another example of bias in perception is people saying "fords are always at the mechanic".

Well yeah ford outsells the competition significantly so by sheer volume that's probably the case. You'll see more fords in the shop than other makes. For instance, the explorer outsells the trailblazer 2-5fold throughout the years offered. So yes you will see more explorers in the shop than trailblazers.

My first car was a '97 Ford Thunderbird. I liked it, didn't have too many issues with it.

After two back to back colds, then a horrible strain of flu, I am recovering from the stomach flu or food poisoning. 4.5 weeks of living you know what. Hopefully this is it!

A long steak of bad luck right there.
I wish I had a long steak. Would be better than this long streak! :D

Daughter has been in daycare since August. I'm the one paying the price...

That not even a similar substitute. I had some Popeyes pepper barrel tenders. They marinate them in Tabasco sauce. They are pretty good.
It's too late to get a steak. It'll have to wait. :)
