If this question is not allowed, I apologize. I am not selling anything, just inquiring of a value.

I am considering purchase of a red monti cap about 8 inches in diameter from an individual who is moving and sizing down tank. Can anyone tell me a dollar average or dollar range that would be valued for?
Thank you.

FWIW Monti caps grow fast, I’d guess a 8” diameter specimen takes maybe <2-3yrs from frag. YMMV.
Is it on a rock and what size tank you got?
oh, $70 bucks maybe, but get more opinions...
got a pic?

It would take less than a year to grow that size in my tank. I sold my colony earlier this year and it barely fit into a 5 gallon bucket. It had multiple shelves and I'm pretty sure I had to break a section off to fit it in the bucket? I sold it for $50. I'm sure there are plenty of reefers in your area who would be willing to give you a small frag? This stuff grows fast and will cover a large area in no time at all, so make sure you have room for it to grow. I would also isolate it to it's own rock, in case you change your mind down the road.

Local market will be the biggest determining factor. Yes they grow fast, but if its a nice deep red colour and a very nice shape then I think it's okay to pay / charge a little more. Especially given the fragility of a colony vs a frag it's local pickup or a bag full of frags. If you just want any random frag to grow out yourself then I would agree with free to a max of $5-10 would be a fair price.
