More Threads? But i get yelled at for starting them

This. I navigate through forums and I only rely on members with several badges for useful insight/mentorship so in fact the badges really do help sort out through opinion and more useful experience
Badges aren't always the best way to determine if you're getting good information. Some of the most knowledgeable and experienced people rarely post and have few or no badges. But when they post you must listen.

In my experience it is often the people who have been in the forums for awhile and they seem to almost get tired of answering the same old questions and they tell you to "do your research" and well
I made videos to refer to, but quickly learned how much that annoys people when I post them as a response. So I decided to let those with more experience answer from now on. There are many pros in the industry on this forum that can help hobbyists if they wanted to. But like you said, they may get tired of repeating themselves.

To clarify. I am goofy....so not exactly yelled at i may have exaggerated that
This was to stimulate conversation not concern haha I'm sorry
You shouldn't be sorry - and this topic comes up fairly often ,where people say 'google it' or 'search R2R' - but I think the overriding principle is that if you post a thread that MAY be repetitive 1) there can be new information that was not posted on the old one. 2). It brings whatever issue you're having back to. people's attention. I don't think there is any real dislike of repetitive posts - after all discussion is usually helpful.

Agreed. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like if all you're going to say is "google it" or "search for yourself", maybe just don't reply at all. To my knowledge, no one is obligated to reply to these threads.

Google searches this site far better than the search bar. I use Google to find what I want on here
Just a quick question - Have you tried the advanced search options? There are also a few methods/buttons, etc that I had no idea even worked to search in a different way?

Right - sorry if I wasn't clear - Repetitive posts are worthwhile - and if you search for example 'cycling' - you'll get many many posts asking what seem to be the same question - and multiple different answers. (for one example) - fish disease is another - everytime its discussed - it adds to the data pool.

You were very clear, I was agreeing with your reply :)

Oh no, don't stop referencing videos, I for one find it extremely helpful and I expect many others do as well.

If I see a video with someone reputable in the industry and I think it will help, I’ll do that. But for my vids, I just post them in the videography forum now. I don’t want to spam the forum with my shenanigans, lol!

You aren't reputable?? You are being waaay too modest!

Thanks. I don’t want to derail this thread, but honestly no. I am not in or recognized by the industry, nor am I anyone of significance in my local community. (No one calls or visits, lol!) I’m just a reefing hobbyist who likes to share and tries to help when I can. I’m sorry if I ever mislead anyone about that.

On R2R you are well known AND respected, reputable!

New challenge is to start a new thread. But i get yelled at
Ask all the questions you want, then turn your sound off. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

This place gets referred to at least once a day on Reddit. That place is REALLY angry. Then they come over here and ask these basic questions without having done ANY leg work.
Ask your questions! Just include the basics and probably a picture!

New challenge is to start a new thread. But i get yelled at when I ask a question relevant to an existing thread...could this be a community issue?
Have we become grouchy pants?
I understand having some time in the hobby coming across silly posts of past experiences and attempting to help or beginning to answer a question only to end up backspacing and tell myself. "Can't help them all" or coming across other posts where they've been answered only to see the same person asking the same question again later. Idk I'm just rambling but it does leave me wondering why this challenge came to be. Not enough community engagement? I'm kind of goofy. I do struggle to navigate the forums efficiently.
Perhaps a tutorial? I have better luck finding a thread that addresses my problem or question via Google rather than the search bar on here. Does reef2reef need to update their search algorithm?

not cool you’re getting scolded after it was encouraged in their new contest or whatever

but hey, as long as you’re not creating and bumping 15 threads, DAILY, like some of the dorks selling freaking copepods do…
you’re alright in my book
(because that’s a whole nother lever of selfish!)

Closing this thread as it's a bit "misleading" as pointed out by the OP.
