More Threads? But i get yelled at for starting them

Honestly I have never seen a member get sincerely chided for starting a thread on this forum. As with all social media there's always going to be a few less than warm and fuzzy members aka grouchy pants.
With that said when creating a thread it's a good idea not to do "I told you so" threads.
If you're seeking assistance accept that help with out challenging it repeatedly. Sometimes you just have to scroll past or choose the ignore option.
Social creatures often bond with like minded people and may not venture out as much. Sometimes it's nice to just shake it up perhaps coax them out.
I didn't look back on your thread history so I am just making general suggestions not directed towards any one member.

:)
I like your take on the subject. I agree we are interesting creatures. Even more so us in a community like this that care for our own ecosystem

Yes. Perhaps a quick short attention span knowledge video on how to navigate reef2reef efficiently could be very helpful posted on the home page one to suits both young and older crowd. Those that aren't great with tech like me
Try some of the stickied threads (threads permenently pinned to the top of the forum) here, and let us know if you still have questions about using the site:

I will throw something out. I used to be very very active on this forum. I got out of the hobby for a few years and now I’m back!! I’ll be posting often.

I have asked and answered many questions in the past that I can’t find the answers to when I search for them. I’m not sure if the search tool can be adjusted. But I know I’ve gotten answers to questions that I can’t find now when I search

If they don’t make one, I will if they’re okay with it.

I'm going to be honest, in an effort to help I looked at your previous posts. I saw one post about Ich and both Jay H. and Vette were helping you, and another post about the Balling method and Randy H.F. was helping you. Those are three reefers I want helping me when I have a question :) Was there something you still had a question about or need extra clarification?
No that was indeed super helpful. I'm just attempting to stimulate conversation was more intended to be
Perhaps my starting statement was a bit clickbaity apologies for that. Although yes I have had replies in which the question goes with only one answer..."use the search function" at the time it made feel like. I should Stop wasting our finite forum space but this thread has been a very positive experience. Humble fish has been great to use. Most of the time it's an issue that you 911 need help ASAP and are freaking out. Which is impossible to communicate via text. Nearly losing a fish but having very straightforward non judgemental info passed on is very nice and reassuring

I wonder if there's someway to make.the search function more intuitive like googles suggestions are always spot on. Of course I'm comparing Google a trillion dollar tech giant to this humble community. But it would be cool to get some insider info on how this forum operates from the tech guys.

I get it, I do, but try not to get too upset, that was obviously someone that should not have been replying if they were not willing to help. I don't claim to be an expert reefer, but I'm happy to try and help you if I can. Feel free to tag me in a post, or even message me directly and if I can't help you I'll find someone who can.

Lately I have been trying to do a quick R2R "Search" if I feel my question may be a common (and answered) one before starting a thread; but I've never encountered any snarky push-back for posting a thread. R2R is GREAT!! :)

Yes agreed. Words i live by. Seek mentors
Thank you

This forum has been around a long time, and of course if you have spent any amount of time here, you see the same old questions. now imagine if everybody used the search bar or googled before asking, traffic here would be way down. Personally, I like reading things over and over it helps my old mind remember.
Please keep asking what your PH should be!

It's true, I saw the challenge today that said we could win a prize if we started a thread and I thought to myself, "what would I start a thread on that hasn't already been talked about" as I also know that it's often frowned upon to ask questions that have already been covered or discussed otherwise. In my experience it is often the people who have been in the forums for awhile and they seem to almost get tired of answering the same old questions and they tell you to "do your research" and well, I just stopped asking questions unless it was in a smaller group setting where I felt it was tolerated and even welcome.

I will say that in general, the sentiment of the title is universal for all hobbies and I see that as a complaint everywhere. People get tired of newbies not googling things or trying to read through other items before hopping on any form of social media to ask a very basic question. In those situations, it's more about the same low effort question being asked multiple times a day in a forum.

I don't see snarkiness around beginner questions here but like all hobbies, they tend to get less engagement because they are the same question over and over. For example, every new reefer is trying to figure out what fish can go into their tank without overfilling it. There is a whole forum/thread meant for people to dump their questions and get answers. I would imagine that should be a hot thread all the time. It doesn't get a lot of interaction, so people are going to post threads where they ask a tailored question to themselves to get the engagement. More threads does improve engagement and how much R2R shows up on Google but it also adds to the frustration of seeing the same questions over and over.

I have seen some snark on R2R though that I was surprised wasn't removed, but didn't hurt me in any way. Normally the negative responses come from the OP not taking the advice well or not listening to the responses they get and spam new threads over and over to get the answer they want.

This. I navigate through forums and I only rely on members with several badges for useful insight/mentorship so in fact the badges really do help sort out through opinion and more useful experience
I wouldn't put too much stock in badges as far as using them to determine whether a persons advice is useful or reliable.

The search here is pretty good but to really utilize it, use the advanced search, make sure searching thread titles only vs entire thread is selected as you would prefer, and things like sort by and other options are being utilized.

A lot of times sort by relevance is annoying to me, and I prefer a chronological set of results

Search is quite good. Make sure you use it best. Advanced search. Use quotation marks for specific phrases or word combos.

Just don’t ask what’s wrong with my clown, or ask if you like my aquascape and it’s all good, otherwise it’s game on for ALL CAPS 🤣
LOL I freakin love the “whats wrong with my clown” threads! They are the most entertaining ever cause you get to see clownfish shenagins over and over! That never gets old to me. Just saw one the other day about a clownfish digging. Got a good laugh cause these little boogers literally will host anything and I love new aquarists “what the heck” reactions when people are like yep thats a clown for ya 😂😂😂 speakin of which Imma go make a new clownfish thread to see more clowns being clowns! My favorite thing in the hobby, not gonna lie
