More Threads? But i get yelled at for starting them

New challenge is to start a new thread. But i get yelled at when I ask a question relevant to an existing thread...could this be a community issue?
Have we become grouchy pants?
I understand having some time in the hobby coming across silly posts of past experiences and attempting to help or beginning to answer a question only to end up backspacing and tell myself. "Can't help them all" or coming across other posts where they've been answered only to see the same person asking the same question again later. Idk I'm just rambling but it does leave me wondering why this challenge came to be. Not enough community engagement? I'm kind of goofy. I do struggle to navigate the forums efficiently.
Perhaps a tutorial? I have better luck finding a thread that addresses my problem or question via Google rather than the search bar on here. Does reef2reef need to update their search algorithm?

I'm sorry you're feeling like you can't post a thread, I don't think I've ever noticed anyone yelling at or upset with someone starting a thread. Did you have a question about something that you need help with?

I feel like R2R is a very active forum, usually most threads get a reply in just a few minutes, and certainly same day. And there's a lot of very, very knowledgeable people here willing to help other hobbyists.

Some questions will get asked over and over again, like cycling a tank.

It can sometimes be easier to search with Google using "Reef2Reef" + "whatever you're searching for".

Please let us know if you need help with anything specific :)

Honestly I have never seen a member get sincerely chided for starting a thread on this forum. As with all social media there's always going to be a few less than warm and fuzzy members aka grouchy pants.
With that said when creating a thread it's a good idea not to do "I told you so" threads.
If you're seeking assistance accept that help with out challenging it repeatedly. Sometimes you just have to scroll past or choose the ignore option.
Social creatures often bond with like minded people and may not venture out as much. Sometimes it's nice to just shake it up perhaps coax them out.
I didn't look back on your thread history so I am just making general suggestions not directed towards any one member.

I think people get annoyed reading the same questions over and over again when the answers are already here it just takes a small amount if effort to find them. This is more annoying to older members who have answered the same questions way too many times.
Increased post counts are good for Rev and the site in general so people are encouraged to post. The daily polls and questions are and example of a way to increase post numbers. It also encourages interaction between members and I think can help newer members feel welcome. I used to get annoyed by the repetitive questions but have been trying to just ignore them if I have nothing to contribute.
What is this green stuff and how do I kill it. Why are my clownfish fighting all of a sudden come to mind as the most annoying posts to me. I have been guilty of questioning repetitive posts but try not too any longer.
At the end of the day if increased post counts benefits the site it is a good thing for all if us even if it can be annoying.;)

I think it probably happens because most people find forums by googling questions they have when they first start reefing. It'll bring them to R2R, they realize it's a great resource, and then they ask all the questions they can think of many of which are common newbie questions. It's kind of inevitable with online forums. I do think R2R is pretty active for a specialty forum, I also keep bees and even the big sites are sloooow to get engagement on things, and it's usually the same few people. Honestly I think the mods do a pretty good job here of cleaning up most of the unneeded grumblings about posts themselves.

I think there is another hidden benefit in having same questions asked repeatedly.
Overtime, new people get to answer them from their experiences and points of view, with different wording annd perspectives and sometimes new insights become known through this.

If same answers were considered “approved” and linked over and over again, no new insights would emerge and no points of view and different opinions would become known, because no one would have reiterated what have already been declared as the sole “truth” in the very same thread.

Some people are used to fb, tiktok, etc. and don’t realize how a forum works. There is much more than the feed. So some seasoned members may suggest searching the forum before making a new thread. I personally don’t care, it’s not my forum. But new posts keep the site higher up in search results in search engines and other media, because there are bots here that catalog everything.

I think it's a little ridiculous to get upset with someone starting a new thread even if it is for a question that's answered frequently.

Searching for info is miserable. Quite often the info is outdated or sometimes just blatantly false. Also if the person who answers the question is someone whose name I don't recognize, was someone new who only ever posted 10 times, etc, I'm taking that info with a grain of salt.

@pasadena_reef can you give an example of where this has happened? Our community is built on the Golden Rule, and we don't allow mistreatment of members. I'm thinking maybe this isn't something you experienced here (did a quick check of your previous threads to see if I could find a situation where someone had been nasty toward you, but not seeing anything). I'm guessing you may be judging R2R by experiences you've had on other platforms. We truly try to be a different kind of community! Definitely reach out if there's something we can help with. Start threads with confidence! People are very helpful here!

Yes. Perhaps a quick short attention span knowledge video on how to navigate reef2reef efficiently could be very helpful posted on the home page one to suits both young and older crowd. Those that aren't great with tech like me

Tbh it's rare when I have the need to post a unique question. Most of the time I find it but through Google.

I'm going to be honest, in an effort to help I looked at your previous posts. I saw one post about Ich and both Jay H. and Vette were helping you, and another post about the Balling method and Randy H.F. was helping you. Those are three reefers I want helping me when I have a question :) Was there something you still had a question about or need extra clarification?
