Where's the mysis?
I would monitor the temp closely and use the melafix. Keep sand for the BSJ to burrow in. My thoughts on keeping the temp down is that it may inhibit the bacteria from growing.

Last night I put him in the QT with some sand and started the Melafix Marine. He was in obvious distress this morning, so I put him to sleep with clove oil, then placed him in the freezer. I did some research and there are many different opinions on the subject. I read that clove oil puts them to sleep, but their heart will continue to beat for a long time, they need to be put in the freezer to stop their heart. I truly feel if I had started treatment sooner, he would have made it. Another lesson learned.

It's funny that the only methods approved by the AVMA involve "drugs" which can only be purchased from a vet. Wonder if pharmaceutical companies have anything to do with that.

SO sorry to hear my girlfriend lost 3 of them already. There just hard to keep for some reason. Hers never lost any skin or anything like that.
Your colors on him looks very healthy when there sick the loost allot of color. Looks like somthing has been eatting at him.
I just lost my chevron tang to the emrald crab last night. I am guess when when i turned off the lights the tang went to his hole to go sleep and then about 30minutes later i went to check for like cool little critters and BAM i see the emrald crab that was in his hole picking at him. It was too late tho. :/ again my girlfriend was sad about this fish also so was I.
BSJF are so pretty and have the most amazing personalitys when you get to no they and they get to no you. i hope for the best for you.

How cute! I just love these fish. They have a wonderful personality. My little guy stole my heart! He had not be sick at all. He was very healthy, eating like a little pig, not afraid of his tank mates or anything. I just got up one morning and his tail was gone. I do have a large Emerald Crab in my tank. Could that be the culprit? I WILL ban him from my tank with a quickness if he did it! I have researched the skin disease they get and I don't think that is what happened. He was spunky even without a tail until I put him in HT. Thanks for the article NanaReefer. It put my mind at ease that I did the right thing as he was very well anesthetized with clove oil prior to freezing. Alka Seltzer seems cruel to me, but I'm not a chemist.

I took him out of the freezer to see if ya'll think he can be saved via quarantine. He was only in the freezer 3 or 4 minutes. Be honest, I can take it. He won't eat. I would love to save him, but I think my attempts would be futile. Here are pictures. Tell me what you think I should do

Does he have all special needs covered in the HT? They like to burrow and such. Is your tank safe for them?
Not true. They approve the use of Clove Oil and Alkaseltzer.

Going to be frank here, cells are made up of fluids, fluids expand and cells burst during freezing. I doubt anyone knows if hypothermia and loss of discomfort/neurological death occurs prior to extemities (fins, tails) freezing. Sorry for being so gruesome. In my opinion a quick death or clove oil are the most humane methods.
