I like to use superglue and a plastic knife to prime an area underwater where I'm going to glue, bigger pieces I recommend using epoxy in addition, but smaller pieces, esp sps, just prime the area underwater by smearing the glue with a plastic knife, then apply glue to coral rub it against the primer area in a small circular twisting motion until you feel it firm up.

I don’t scrape off anything. Sometimes stuff won’t even come off. I will just glue it on. If there is a lot of algae or other growth, you may need to use a little extra glue and hold it in place for a little longer.

I scrape a bit first to be sure the glue has a clean spot to grab onto.
