Am I missing something or do I have to drill holes to pass the cable through from my cabinet big enough for either the pump dry side itself to pass through or the driver? That’s some big holes!

You should be able to open the driver up and disconnect the cable from it to run it through your cabinet. No need for a big hole.

Correct, you need to unscrew the backplate, disconnect the wire, and then pass it through. Kind of annoying, but given it’s a 1 time thing (usually), not too much of an inconvenience.
