Recently purchased this gbta. The second night it traveled clear across the tank, on the glass, near the powerhead. It wasn’t directly on the powerhead, maybe 4 inches from it. I picked it up quite easily and placed it where it has now sat comfortably for a week. I recently noticed what is pictured below. Other than that it’s behavior has been normal. Any clue what’s going on with it? Apologies if the photo isn’t helpful, between the clowns trying to photo bomb and the camera focus picking up the tentacles swaying

Bta do some weird stuff sometimes. It could have gotten a tentacle in the power head or it could just be being a bta no reason that we know of. I wouldn’t worry much atm if it’s been in the same spot for a week just keep a eye one it. Mouth cavities bulge some times due to expelling waste or water as long as it’s not gapping I wouldn’t worry right now.

What do you think #reefsquad

I agree with Gonebad395. Anemones have been know to push a lot of their insides out of their mouth and then 'suck' it back in and go on as if nothing happened!

If it does start to move around again, you might consider a technique I use. I put BTAs, RFAs and mini-maxi anemones in pvc end caps and place them in the sand. So far, over a few years, almost none of them have left the end caps. There is a more info about the way I do it in the RFA discussion thread linked in my signature below.

Good luck, hope this helps.

BTW, these guys are are almost all in pvc end caps except the mini-maxi and the tiny RFA babies!

Thank you for the advice. Those are stunning!!!! I was doing a little reading on the chemical warfare with anemones. Sometimes they pertrude their guts and excrete enzymes from their stomachs? Have you ever had a problem with chemical warfare between anemones? I have 2 mini maxis, and a lta. The rest are bta anemones.

I've never seen any warfare between my RFAs and the mini-maxi anemones. I've had RBTAs but they were never so close to the others that there would be a problem. In the same 40g tank; no problem, next to each other... good question! And I've had more warfare between my hammer and my zoas than between my RFAs and my zoas! ;Jawdrop
