The importer had 10 apparently, the seller sent me a video and they all looked good! He said it was the best shipment he’s had, and there’s still this one left there now, a few weeks later.

Somebody somewhere is definitely doing something right. Was it just luck, or is there something other importers (be it wholesaler or direct to retailer) are missing? This one looks to be in excellent shape, even after sitting for a a few weeks.

Honestly I’m not sure what the reason is. It’s a new seller just setting up, but obviously the importer must have been/be working with other shops as well. I’ve had people messaging me on a UK forum saying they’ve been looking for a healthy Gig for several years.

All of the Nems looked in good health when I watched the video. He also sold a big red Haddoni from the same shipment that looked great.

I literally wouldn’t fit them both in my tank 😁

Spectacular! So very beautiful! I am so jealous. Best of luck with it. A harem of small pink skunks would look amazing in that beauty.

That’s the dream, I’m just not sure how many would have the best chance of success as I don’t want them killing each other off. Even 3 or 4 living together in it would be great.

So far, my plan for a trio of ocellaris in my magnifica is going as planned 5 months in, but they are not yet spawning, which might possibly be a turning point. My plan involved starting with siblings that are already familiar with each other.

Hows the gig doing?

Doing great. Tentacles becoming longer and seems happy. There’s always a slight bulge from its mouth but I’m past worrying about that, any disturbance and it tightens right up.

I’m slowly ramping the light up week by week. Currently on 80% blues and 20% whites.

First pic tank lights, second and third with an orange filter.

Magical moment today. Our Ocellaris had been struggling with what looked like a swimbladder problem. A few weeks ago, she switched from being hosted by the silicone at the top corner of the tank to just sitting in a depression she’d dug in the sand. She only fed on what came directly to her and wasn’t swimming off the bottom very well at all.

As a shot to nothing I took her out and treated her for a week with Azithromycin. I tried her back in the main tank today, and released her near the Gig. She didn’t go near it before. This time she hovered near it, but encouragingly she was able to swim and stay off the bottom in the flow. Then she gave it a nudge, then kept having a look under the disc…and within 10 minutes of being back in the tank she was playing in it, and seemingly fully recovered too!

I think a harem could work with a gig that size. I have a tank with multiple gigs and BTAs and shhh.... I have a maroon female and a pair of percs and they fight when they see each other, but since they can't see each all of the time with all of the anemones, they're able to co-exist.

I think I’m going to try adding 4 or so small Ocellaris from the same breeding and see what happens. I’ll remove some if necessary.

You may want to consider eight or more, possibly a dozen. It'll spread out the squabbling. With only four, one might get picked on, then the next one, until you're left with only two.

Thanks. I’ll have a think, the only issue is that 10+ mature Clowns are going to be a fairly big bioload in an RS250. Nutrients are totally under control at the moment though, so I’ve got a good starting point. SPS are doing great too but I’m probably going to have to dose nitrate as I can’t even get a reading (ICP is 0.07).

So I decided to just stick to a pair of Clowns, which also frees up a little room for different fish later.

I collected a small tank bred Ocellaris yesterday. Lowered him into the tank, and within 1 second he had dived into the Gig and was loving it.

Who says tank bred don’t have hosting instincts! The Female accepted him instantly as well.
