Hello, I am currently active duty and am having to execute orders from SOCAL to SC in January (great weather for moving fish). I am currently in the process of planning to move my 75 gallon aquarium. I currently house 6 Amazon puffers, 3 gouramis, some random community fish, and an inspector pleco. I am trying to get as much guidance and advice as I can before I move. Right now the plan is to have 5 gallon buckets and divide the fish ans much ans possible, insulate them and use and aerator that goes in from a hole in the lid of the bucket. I would love feedback and pointers if you have done this. I am really trying not to give my fish up

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Thank you for serving!

Are you planning to drive, and how long do you expect it to take?

I might consider packing the fish in coolers (my local Goodwill store ALWAYS has cheap coolers) and using battery powered air pumps and stones.

Some bio media or a way to change out the water with fresh during pit stops would help. Don't rely on things like Seachem Prime to reduce ammonia, it's been shown to be ineffective.

If you have a truck with an onboard AC outlet, your life just got a lot easier, you could run anything you want, including heaters or an internal filter with mature biomedia. If not, I would keep the coolers in the car with you and keep the air in the car comfortable, and the fish should be fine, as far as temperature.

Last, if there's anyone in SOCAL that can hold the fish and then ship them overnight to you once you get our East and setup, that's not a bad plan either.

Good luck!

I thought Hillary's video series for her recent move to be informative. I haven't seen an unpacking one though so maybe still in transit? lol
