Just wondering if anyone has tried to mimic the natural movement of Sun and Moon with lighting(beyond ramp up and down) in a reef tank before? We try hard to mimic or improve upon the natural environment it seems like a logical step to me.

It is a concept many have tried. Cool idea, some say it improves growth and coral health. There’s also the idea of running your lights to ramp up and down at different times that can achieve a similar concept. Like the AI’s and other brands have an option to start on one end of the tank and end on the other to simulate this concept. Personally I don’t care for either option. Maybe on a dedicated grow out if it was proven to improve growth a considerate amount I’d consider it. But on a display I’m not willing to give up the uneven lighting for a good looking even lit reef that I’m displaying in my home, it would just bug me too much to not see everything lit as one.
