Spring for spending the extra $5 and get higher purity Calcium Hydroxide from BRS for $12.99 per gallon! I know Mrs. Wages is perfectly safe, but I always prefer adding a few impurities as possible to my tank in addition to what I intend to add.

The BRS is a fine product, but I wouldn't assume it is any higher grade than a food grade product. :)

This is crazy but interesting so it will raise both calcium and alkalinity. But what if you just want to raise calcium only?

Then use calcium chloride. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if they still use Mississippi lime which has a food grade product.
