Rough morning... got to work.. worked an hour. Momma calls me.

1 Hydros XP8 fried, one mp40 controller sitting in rice.. 20 or 3p gallons of water on the floor.. one fish dead. I hate this tanks overflow setup. When I DIY'd it i made a critical error and this is the second time I've had this issue due to stuff growing in the overflow, then plugging up the pipes between the tank and the overflow. I cant wait for my Innovative Marine to show up now.. luckily I bought a second XP8 to "expand" so i at least had a replacement. At least Hydros is setup well so that when I added my new XP8, it had all my settings and parameters transferred over to the new XP8 from the old one which allowed me to be back to work in just over 2 hours.

Add a level sensor to the display that shuts off the return when the level in the tank rises just below a critical level.

Yea, i'm planning to do that. I'll be putting a bunch of redundancies in the new tank as well. I dont have a lot of head room in my current tank, so hopefully the water level sensors are small. Maybe the skimmer sensor? I think thats penny sized?

The water level sensors are fairly small but you can also install the float sensors upside down and underwater according to CoralVue. They seem to be better than the other ones anyway.

The optic level sensors are 20mm cubed so about 3/4".

Good call. I worry about float switches growing gunk and sticking though... so maybe stock a leak rope as a last resort where, it does leak, but only a small amount.. gotta do something for sure

I have both the leak rope and a level sensor installed on mine.

I have a failed "closed" (wet) sensor that I'm likely going to contact CoralVue for a replacement and ask for the float sensor as a replacement. If they'll send it, I'm going to print a bracket to keep the float vertical instead of upside down at the back of the tank.

I made a bracket for the tri-level sensor and temp probe to fit on my Marineland 40 breeder's rim. The standard sensors are the same size.

I'm going to print a bracket to keep the float vertical instead of upside down at the back of the tank.

I need to get better at designing haha. I've made a few things be definitely not very proficient

The problem I had with the hydros one was that the overfill sensor was triggering but the ATO still worked fine. I just turned off having the overfill do anything but send me a notice. I cleaned the sensor with RODI and it didn't seem to help but When I did a restart on the controller (Start) it cleared and hasn't come back. It seems there is an issue that can happen where an alert gets triggered multiple times and then somehow gets 'stuck' in the controller and the fix is a restart of the controller to clear its cache. I had a temp sensor that failed after two days and showed as disconnected. I couldn't clear the alert. I even deleted the input entirely. Nothing worked until I restarted both the controller it had been connected to (XS) and the collective master (Minnow).

Hopefully, given time, they'll fix that. My system has always worked flawlessly but I genuinely only have a temp, and a ph for sense ports. Everything else is switching via XP8.
