Heyoo guys, you read it right! It is literally a 250ml reef tank. I am using a glass jar. I was wondering how small could a reef tank possibly be. So, a glass jar, no pumps, no filter, just sunlight/house light. Is it possible. Well since i already have an established 20g tank. I just grabbed some sand, some water and 2 pieces of rubble for the jar. AND, the jar doesnt have a chiller, meaning that the temp would be around 28°-30° celcius, whereas my 20g is 25° celcius. And the firs inhabitant i have adde are some spaghetti worms and a small clump of chaeto, a small bristle worms and a small vermetid snail.

Since there is no water movement, there wont be much gas exchange so i haveto leave the lid open. What do you guys think of it? 20260106_181724.jpg 20260106_181729.jpg

I JUST ADDED CORALS!!! A baby mushroom, a small kenya tree branch, a small xenia clump, and a captain jack palythoa(2 polyps). I fragged them from my 20g reef tank. Hopefull they do good. The palythoa is already opening up!

Did you do any w/c or replenish any evaporation?

I love this btw. I might copy you.

I do a 90% water change whenever it smells unpleasant. I add 1ml fresh water to overcome evaporation. Every few hours i will suck up some water with a syringe and pour it back from the height of 4-6 inches to increase gas exchange. Seems like palythoas are the most indestructible corals. Even my kenya tree died.

What if you added an air stone and ran a small amount of air with a small pump, you would get circulation and water movement from that and you could add a valve to control the amount of air.

Great idea! But the diameter of the jar is only 5 cm. Putting an air stone would take up 20%-30% of the available space, though i think it will still work. But, i also want to see if u can do a reef tank without electricity.

What about ditch the whole stone some way… if you can jam/glue a piece of stone inside an airline that’ll still allow air through. Idk if the single bubbles from just an airline would be super worth it but maybe.

Great idea! I might try that once i get the other reef tank so it would be worth to set up a air pump

Nice idea. I already have an old air pump lying around. I might set it up later, after i have my lunch
I'm heading to bed. Goodnight. I will check in tomorrow. I may have to try a pico reef. I'm going to hunt for a cool old jar or something to use.
