Following. I’m planning a 40b barebottom as well. I’m not going to set mine up for a while, so this will be great to watch. Interesting selection of different styles of wave makers. Are you going to make a canopy or leave the top open?

leave top open
if you want the barebottom.
I bought my black ABS sheet in .118" thickness from Tap plastic cut perfectly to size 35 3/16 x 17 3/16 and was only $30 shipped
Same thickness BRS sells

Great build !!! Following.. I'm upgrading to a 75g and probably will go bare bottom. The lawnmower blenny is burring all my corals.

i will say one thing. Going barebottom. I bought some flat bottom cut rock cause I was worried it may slide around like on glass. Well when i put it in the tank even the rounded uneven rock when it sits on the ABS it almost locks itself in and will never slide around. Just in case anyone had that fear like I did

Love the scape. Bare bottom will look much better if you decide to go nuts with the flow in the future. I’ve got a sand bed and have needed to buy lots of Powerheads to keep the sand evenly spread (up to 7 on a 4ft atm but still going)

I hope an MP10, Jebao SW2 and Gyre 1k is a ton to begin with. The gyre was crazy in the cube and impressed with it on this tank. I havnt moved the MP10 to it yet since its still running the 35 but this 1k moves water 3feet on the other side of the tank to blow around little rubble pieces larger than even large grain sand. I might end up selling the MP10 and get a 2nd gyre for the other side. they give much nicer flow pattern

Yeah, they are pretty good. I’ve got a few MP10/40s and they seem to do pretty well at disrupting the constant flow from the gyres in the reefcrest mode. I find that random flow is harder to get with just gyres. But the constant flow pattern is best for nutrient export

Im considering going bare bottom in my 40b due to sahara desert conditions trying to keep good flow. Doing it to a live tank so likely going to flat cut the rocks and lay it right on the glass. Wish i would have thought about that before setting it up!
