Just wanted to post a 6 month update pic. Im pretty happy so far. Sorry for the bad pic, using my cell phone.

Well the old scape started to get too cramped as the corals started to grow out. Also, I needed to make some much needed room for my clams. Now that there is less rocks, there is actyally more room for the corals to grow and the flow is alot better throughout the tank.

I started down this road looking at switching to leds, but life side tracked me. But one of my friends told me that people were having issues with sps loosing color over time. I guess im not sure what over time is, 1yr maybe. But i was looking at doing the same thing for my 120g, 96 leds on U channel.

I heard that too, but I figured I take a chance anyways. I don't understand why sps would have good color under leds, then all of a sudden lose it? If led's were such a problem, wouldn't the sps lose color soon after switching to leds? Why would it lose color over time? Alls I know is that color is getting better and better as the months go by just as long as my params are in par.

People using cheapo LEDs this doesn't surprise me.

you say LEDs but there are a million out there, and even 6-8 different Royal blue Crees. Feel free to check my 120 to see what good LEDs from a reputable seller gets you :)

Dont cheap out and do U channel, that also changes the spectrum of the LEDs because of heat increase.

This is an awesome looking tank. I love the color. Can you do me a favor and take a pic with just the LEDs and another with the LEDs and T-5? I would like to see what the color of just the LEDs looks like.

PS this is pretty close to what I would like to do within a year from now. I'll end up doing two pendant styles though in order to allow an easy transition to a 6 foot tank for upgrading.

Actually there isn't much difference you can tell on camera....atleast with the camera I am using. In person, when the t5's come on, it fills the tank with more light, lighting up everything that the led "misses". It takes away a lil of the shimmer, but still looks good. I like the fact of having t5's because I can play with the color spectrum and be able to tweak colors as how I want it.
