I like the mixing station . Sure wish I had the space for something like that, so I just make it as I need it. When it comes to sand I love the sand look for me I have to have sand. But its something you need to address for yourself. Plus I like gobies and stuff so sand is more of a plus . When it comes to rock I like the rock look and you can add power heads to address flow if you have flow issues with rock. I had to go to work quick so I couldn't type out a good reply to your build but I like it. I use the loop system for power heads myself.

nice cube I have a 90 that I am rebooting...

my 2 cents for what ever there worth...lol

I agree the aquascape needs more space maybe try to ad some different types of rocks to the mix? or even break them up to epoxy it together. ( just me mind full not to do the whole scape into one pices =PITA in the future )

for flow ( I am in the same boat ) might want to loon in to a pair of the reef breeders RPM 26 pumps priced right and supper small foot print with wide flow. they sale coral box to cheaper but with a only a year warranty vs 18 months.
or a maxpect ot ice cap gyre they have there problems to.

Plumbing supplies here, hopefully this weekend I can finish tidying up with the electric and can start the plumbing followed by a water test. Had some 2nd thoughts about the stand last night but it is in good condition (Marineland made for 60g cube). I just would overkill the hell out of a stand if I made it because I get nervous with the kiddies running around but I should be good. I reinforced underneath to limit bounce and once I shim all away around it doesn’t move at all.

Anyways, played around with the aquascape some more. Thanks @NY_Caveman for those cool videos and @Nicholas Dushynsky for the tips! Here’s some pics...

Thats some reinforcement there.
I like the scape you have there now as with just shifting it all around you don't have as much touching the bottom, also you seem to have made alot more little caves for the water to flow around and the fish to hide in. Also you seem to have a fair bit of room for corals at different heights of the scape. Good work.

1” durso complete
3/4” return complete

Now I need to find someone to help me put it back on the stand. I almost dropped it by myself and my back gave out.:(

Couple of notes during water test:

1. Don’t fall asleep while filling the tank
2. Don’t fall asleep while filling the tank

Ugh , yea I did it and flooded the basement a little. My wife is helping me clean thank god because my back is shot from lifting the tank by myself yesterday.

Anyways... all working but durso is pretty loud, I’m getting that hollowing noise. Should I increase the size of the hole for air?

Ok, plumbing worked minus the noise lol. One more water test this weekend and I will add a gate valve to the overflow to see if I can reduce the turbulence into the sump... I was going to drill two holes for the return on the back of the tank and put a full siphon with emergency in back overflow but I talked with previous owner and I might be overkilling it. Any thoughts?

I know nothing about sumps. It may be worth creating a new thread on the topic to get some more eyes on it. Perhaps @jsker has some thoughts too.

Water test currently going on and my system is ULTRA quiet, very happy with the direction I went...

On to more hills to climb. Need your help here. I’m thinking of building a 3 sided no top canopy that I can slide right on top of the tank to conceal the light some. What’s your thougts, cable management is killing me here.

How about a Canopy on rails so you can push it to the left to have easy management, it might be tricky but would be clean as gold

Floating canopy attached to the wall on drawer slides. Then you could get to the sides without issue. Would limit the light spill as well.

That’s an awesome idea, thanks!

I tried making one this morning but my wife went out and I have the kids and it’s not working. My pants are falling down, I am tripping all over things, mis measuring, while the kids are not listening, I can’t work like this or I will lose it so I am quitting for today.

I actually have drawer slides downstairs I might be able to use. I will keep you updated, thanks again!
