Auto Top Off and Reservoir system:
I have a BRS 5 stage RO/DI which I have designed to fill a 25 gallon recycle bin. The tank is on a wall that has both the water main and the sewer clean out, so I ran 3/4 inch PVC out to the sewer clean out cap. I ran the PVC up one side of the tank to the top left of the canopy. I then mounted the waste water drain saddle about 3/4 the way up the PVC. The top was left open for siphon and a place to stick a hose with an MJ 1200 of the end for water changes....no more carrying 5 gallon buckets across the house

The second recycle bin is filled a day or so before a water change and has a power head and a heater that are used to mix the salt water and get it up to proper temp. When I am ready to change water, I turn on the MJ 1200 and start the drain, before flipping off the main and top circ pumps. (bottom pumps stay on) While the main is still on, the level in the return section fo the sump begins to drop and once it reaches the bulkhead, I flip it off and shut off the ball valve on the return. This prevents to sump from overflowing into my safety surge tank. I then drain from the display down to a pre marked line on the side glass. Once I have reached this point, I start the ball valve from the new salt mix which starts draining into the return area. I watch the return area level up, then flip on the main pump and open back up the return line valve. At this point I control the flow from the salt mix to the return according to how much the main pump is putting back into the display. Once the display water starts back into the overflow and the return area is up to the top off flot the water change is complete. (if I have premixed salt water, the whole process takes about 15 to 20 minutes)

Canopy Detail:
Many things have been done to the canopy since the initial build. As previously mentioned, the fan system was installed which is a simple window fan that was massaged into the back panel. It pulls air in on one side and pushes out the other. I have used register deflectors to keep fresh air, cool coming in one side and moist, warm air going out the other. This works really well and I attribute it to realizing after the fact, that the vents to this room are on the direct opposite side as the tank and during the summer, cool are blows across the room, over top of the canopy and the fan sucks it in. My temp ranges from 78.5 to 80.2

Ventilation Fan (The PVC to the left is for the water changes and an LED strip light with adjustable colors is used for moon lighting and is attached to the light fixture)

I designed the doors to open on the canopy to be as accessible to the lighting as possible. This allows me to pull the fixture for maintenance. The front doors are rigged with gas charged shocks (from a marine boat supplier) and pop open like Delorian Doors. The doors on the canopy were salvaged from some cabinet faces I bought from a builder overstock warehouse... the front doors happened to fit perfectly, but the sides were cut into 4 and sized down to fit... the lines on the other side were filled with wood fill and sanded, then painted over and are barely visible, besides, no one sees the side doors anyway.

Looking good, sweet deal on the clam!

Thanks...

I have a newer added Acan that appears to be losing 2 of its heads....melting... been doing some searching around and there is mention of Iodine Dip and bumping up mag. I dont have an Iodine test kit, but I do have mag and I'm headed to test it right now. Any thoughts on saving the one remaining head? That part is kind of puffy and is not receded I blew off some of the tissue today with a baster, but the other two heads may be goners.

Mag is reading at 0.17 on salifert which is between 1260 and 1230, so Mag is low... I added 5 capfulls of Magnesion (Brightwell). I have Continuum Reef Basics Iodide which I add 2 cap fulls per week (last done on Tuesday, last week. I just did approx 25% water change after running Chemi pure. All the other LPS look good, Si I cam guessing this is shock from placement (when I attached it with epoxy) Its in medium flow, mid tank.

Here is pic:

Edit... not chemi pure.. Chemi Clean.... This was not a preferred method of cyno removal, but I have had success before... and believe to have this time... I think its stressed from the application to the rock

I am going to test PH, Alk and Calcium here in a minute, but the water change was completed on Sunday and I use reef crystals...I'm imagining they are all in good range (unfortunatly, my Alk test sucks though and gives me a very wide range.. BBS

Yep that's brown jelly, dip it in your iodine if that is the only dip you have.

Don't turkey baste it, if you do it can spread to your other LPS corals. Try to get it out of the tank without disturbing the jelly.
