my flame hawk

Hello everyone I am a relatively new reefer ( ive had a tank for 1.5 months) and I got my Flame Hawkfish 4 days ago and he is always hiding. I even see my lawnmower Blenny more. Is there a way that I can make it come out or is this normal thank you.

I just noticed that he is perced up in a cave really close up to the rock and hasnt moved for hours other than his eyes. Is this normal.

The one I had was all over whatever size tank he was in, perching high and low. Yours is 4-days in... I’m thinking he’s not nearly as comfortable yet as he will get. Best wishes!

Glad you joined.

Give hawkfish time to adjust as over time you should see him more. Likely he's been thru a lot... travel to LFS, then new tank, travel to your home, then into new tank... and who knows what before that... If it were me, a week in bed wouldn't be enough time to recover! They have such personality I'm sure he'll be out and about in a little more time

Welcome! I had one too. Was very healthy until it jumped (crying face emoji). Might be a good idea to get a lid. Not sure if they are usually jumpers tho. And don’t add shrimp. I’m pretty sure that hawk fish eat shrimp

Welcome to R2R! Can't force the fish to come out, it'll just stress the fish out. Slow and steady wins the race in this hobby. :)

And you never know, maybe he's just a permanently shy fish that you'll only see during feedings. There are some like that.
