Yes, I did it. Finally.....they are not 100% complete yet. the light controller I got was faulty so they are not 100% bright yet. I will wait to get tank shots until the new one gets here monday.

when I bought the kit, it was a single piece with 106 LED's. I added another 24 to it, so the total is 130. I split them into two pieces so I could mount them more easily and put them on slides for easy cleaning.

just after cutting them apart and getting the splash guards in place

Halides removed and the lights are in. I left the Actinics in just in case I didnt like the color or felt it didnt have enough light.

Looks very good. I like the drawer slides and the way you mounted the splash guards. Is that 1/4" plexiglas? Is it held on with nuts? What about drilling the end of the bolts/pegs and securing it with snap pins like these.

That would make it real easy to take off and take to the sink for a quick cleanup.

Harry. It is 1/8" I believe. Yea stainless steel nuts and bolts. They r just finger tight. Good idea on the clips. The slides were $6 each at Lowes and work perfectly. I can slide them out and wipe with a rag. I have 4 non dimmable circuits of 12 and 6 dimmable circuits of 12.

If they're just finger tight I'd be careful that they don't work loose from vibration.

Those look like C channel for heat management. What is the junction temperature at the stars? I'm working on transitioning my display over now (72x36x25). Right now I'm looking at the monster HeatsinkUSA heat sinks, with the T bar aluminum as a second thought since they have quite a bit mass for heat transfer.

Running any fans?

Gary, when we were testing them, the rails were quite cool. they never got above 100. I know I can put my finger on the backside of the starts and hold it there very easily. I have some high volume rat trap style fans in the hood so it blows alot of air diagonaly across teh fixtures and the splash guard channels it in. Plus that is how it came so unless I completely re-engineered it, this is what I got.

What Lindsay has are my old Led's and they came the way they are from the guy i bought them from, And worked quite well with fans.
The above link shows Cheng's New find in Mounting bars that keep Led's cool without the need to run any fans!
Nice Job at retroing them Lindsay, I suggest you start with them not at full power as they are much brighter than your M/H and will burn coral easy. And you can expect to have things Brown out until they get used to the new light source, But in a few months you will be back to normal.

Thanks bill. The reefkeeper light controller I bought was faulty out of the box so i have yet to run them at full strength. Only 4 out of 10 strings (of 12 lights) are running at full power. The other 6 are barely on due to no dimmer control. I get my replacement controller Wednesday so then I can play with them. Right now they have done 8 hours of light this way and all corals look great. Getting better colors already.

Radio Shack has evercells that cost 20.00 that will do the same thing (10 Volt Source with dimmer) if you need a backup plan.

I have plenty of wall warts I could use to get them brighter but advice has been taken to ease the tank into them....
