Just the residual effects on corals. Its summertime and the reef always gets put on the back burner during the summer. It just seems even worse now that I really don't care anymore.

Sorry to hear that, Mark :( . There have been many times when the only thing saving my reef from being thrown out onto the front porch was the weight of the system :snicker:

Thanks for the compliments. The fish are great... they are really why I got into the hobby. But boy do they make keeping colorful acros a PITA! Some corals I just accept that they will never look nice in my tank, so I just don't keep them. Abrotanoides comes to mind first...

Peter, what are the dimensions of your tank? Could you also list your equipment? It looks fabulous!

Thank you. Sure...

The reef was originally set up in September 2006 after my 30g hex crashed while I was in Europe (power outage, return pump seized, anti-siphon hole clogged with algae, so tank sat, half empty, under a 250W MH light for 48 hrs). It was set up in a 110g tank. I fell in love with the height.

I upgraded to a 150g in October 2009 when I moved after buying a condo. The tank is 48" x 24" x 30"tall. Tank, stand, and canopy are all from Leemar.

Equipment:
2 x 250W DE 14K Phoenix on Icecaps in PFO pendants
MRC2 dual injector skimmer with added 8" riser on a GenX PCX55 pump
Ozone from an Enaly 250mg unit
BRS carbon in a reactor
2 MP40 vortechs (replaced a hammerhead closed loop from the old tank - too hot, too loud, and too many seal leaks)
2 tunze nanostreams for flow behind the rocks

Other random stuff like a chiller, etc. Nothing critical, that I forgot, I think.... :)

Edit: Oh, like 30mL of vodka per day to deal with all the fish and still keep most acros looking purdy.

Thanks! Specs are in the post right above yours :) I had my camera sitting on a cardborad box, on the top of my step stool, on top of my coffee table LOL.

Have you considered going the solid vodka dosing route? I've been thinking about jumping on the bandwagon.

Not really. I've been super happy with my vodka dosing, which I've been doing for several years now. Plus, I just have no more room under the tank!

Thank you very much :)

Well, the vodka, I started just like that Reefkeeping article. Very precise and all. Now though, I just toss in about 30mL at a time, in the late afternoon. If I notice any bacterial buildup, I skip a few days. If I notice corals turning dark, I bump up the dose a bit. I know, not very "scientific", but I know my tank well enough at this point so it works for me.

Carbon runs 24/7, and gets changed about once a month (or sooner if the bacterial growth clogs it :crossedlips: ). 35g water changes once every 3 weeks or so. Ozone... hmm, let's see. 250mg/hr unit, with no air dryer, so lets say 125 mg/hr then. On 5 minutes, off 8 minutes. So, that's about 9 hrs per day total (23 minutes on per hour = 48 mg/hr). That's my best guess right now.
