I feel like this isn't a very popular tank when I look around for inspiration but I always wanted one so here we go... I'll continue updating... I had to get away from the dang rock! Lol

It's a bit of a photo dump but the tank has come together nicely so far, I'm just trying to take my time, tomorrow is alot of cord management... and sand should be here 🤙🏽

lookin good! following .....

Moved a few things around but this evening I will be running the wires for the gyre's, thinking of an exact location for the UV because where it was mounted to my understanding was not the best., and thinking of where to place the algae turf scrubber... once I do that ill free all the lines and do a clean tuck and lastly put on the sensors. Any thoughts on the scrubber and uv im open for. I'm thinking I can squeeze it in the cabinet but would be annoying to maintenance, I have another cabinet otw but I feel like I shouldnt have those 2 so far away from the sump.

Curious the thought behind a scrubber? IMHO, it's something you might not even need depending on your tank.

For UV, aqua UV makes a solid sterilizer and you won't be disappointed.

The scrubber is more so a preliminary. I don't necessarily think I'll use it right away if at all but since it's here I just want to plumb now instead of later. The tank was originally a reef tank and came with it. While putting it all together I just started researching fish I want and I'm leaning toward an Anthias tank. I assume as often as they eat I may at some point be able to utilize it

Buddy of mine made these for me on the 3d printer... pretty stoked for the control board.

They will guy the cords like the blue ones on the last picture.

Started a vinyl wrap on the stand just a bit ago, didn't know how much I could trust the wood to look how I wanted but didn't want white. So did a concrete, we shall see Monday when the extra vinyl gets here. Probably bolt up the back side to see what it's looking like...

Here's my morning so far. Input on the salt? Think I should bump it up to 1.026 or I've seen some people do 1.028... I turned the heater off already and then im going to adjust it. Seems to run hot..

I vote 1.026... have you cross checked the Hanna by any chance? My unit is off by 0.003 no matter how many times I calibrate it using their solution.

Cross checked it with the Tropic Marin Hydrometer which is supposed to be the most accurate as well as my refractometer and those two match up at 1.026 but the Hanna always shows 1.023. I've now retired it. Some folks swear by it but I'll never rely on it going forward.

Dang, no I don't have anything to crosscheck it with. I recalibrated it this morning to feel safe about it.

I'm assuming since I'm not putting anything live in it right now i can always cross check it tomorrow or Tuesday and if need be add some R.O, correct?

Depends on which way your Hanna is reading or maybe it's just an issue with my unit and yours is correct but yeah to reduce just remove some of the saltwater and replace with RODI water in small increments until you reach 1.026.

It's worth getting at least a refractometer with calibration fluid to use as backup. My cheap $30 one off Amazon is accurate to the TM hydrometer after calibrating with both Continuum calibration solution and AccuraSea calibration solution.

I'll get that going for piece of mind, thanks. I added a little salt so now I'm gonna wait a bit and check.

I have to take my rock back out to add sand is the best way am I correct? I know it's preference but it only seems sensible now that I'm here...

It's best to have your rock work in the tank then add sand afterwards so the rock is sitting on the glass and not on the sand. The sand can shift down the road and cause stability issues to your rock work especially if you have certain fish that like to dig.

But the sand won't cover good chunk of the base? Or do I just move the sand how I want it to start and then let the fish make it home?

It'll be ok as long as you're not going too deep with your sandbed. This is the preferred way of doing it, I used to put the rock right on top of the sand and never had an issue but it's generally recommended to have the rock on the glass and the sand around it securing it in place.

Some folks will use small rocks or PVC to elevate the rockwork too so that's also another option.

Giving me suckin ship vibes 😆

Following along. Love my peninsula, although flow can be challenging with sand.
