We are not trying to argue with you just prepare you so you don’t get dejected and want to quit when it comes back. We are just trying to let you know that the ugly stage is a real thing and not a quick fix.

Your blackout may have won the battle, but there will be many more battles until your tank is mature and you can put it on cruise control. So all we are saying is don’t be surprised if the algae comes back.

Your planned CUC is a good next step. It will certainly help keep the next time more manageable… hopefully.

As RTparty said, the blackout also hurts your beneficial bacteria, so pick you up a bottle of microbacter7, or PNS Probio, or a bacteria of your choice and get a long “coral feeder” that will reach your sand bed and inject some of the good bacteria under your sand bed in different spots of your tank. It helps to inject it where the algae spots creep up. This will help the good outperform the bad.

So i blacked out for a week , diatoms are in the past dino's got crushed and whats left are being taken out by the cyano , my clean up crew is now inbound to take care of the mess (copepods, snails, sand stars , hermit crabs, and a couple clowns) along with chemiclean to take out the cyano,water change will be done once cyano has cleared and then starting the new year i will be stocking coral and much more fish

Candy corals , frag box , saltwater pro's make room there's a new reefer in town

Yes i stopped dosing Phosphate remover after i bottomed out and took out the diatoms thats when the dinos arrived , i have since stepped up feeding again to bring phosphates back to stable levels , cyano is a flow issue for sure , i have been moving my power head around to find the sweet spot that gives best flow around the far side of the tank but treating with chemiclean wil take it out now and ill get my second powerhead placed on the far side to fix the flow issue soon

I have a good clean up crew on the way most of which will eat cyano , all of which will eat any leftover diatoms and detritus and other algeas that develope

I had a problem once where i lived the water source had lot of silicates and had to use an extra di cartridge called silica buster. I kept thinking it was cyano or dino's because it was reddish but the whole time it was just every water change i was adding more. Went on for over a year before i figured it out.

I used tap water when i filled it i already know thats why my silicates were to high but i knew phosphate remover would remove them , after that ive only used distilled bottled water which there is no silicates or anything else in to water change and top off

Definitely not mad. Been doing this too long to get mad at this situation. I’ve seen it played out hundreds of times with hobbyists. Many sounded just like you and it’s always the same result

The half not getting any flow is covered with cyano barely any dinos and the other side is nothing , i blackednit out and it took out everything but the cyano

I can't remember ever thinking anything in my reef was fixed after a week. Results get tabulated after months, if not a lot longer.

I think it is actually really neat how a reef tank laughs at the urge for instant gratification. Forcing the long game on people is good for what ails us. The AI won't be happy to hear this, but oh well.

Treatment is much easier applied to the specific for the type of dinos you have. Ostreopsis is pretty easy to get rid of for instance. Others can be much more stubborn. Would recommend a cheap microscope that helps you identify the strain for any future outbreaks and you can treat accordingly. 5 day blackout will be rough if the tank is coral bound.

I understand the black p ut can be rough on corals , luckily im waiting to pass the worst of the uglies before i stock up , that being said diatoms and dinos are the least of my concerns and the easiest so far to get rid of . It cyano thats the trouble maker but im ordering a double powerhead for the low flow side but still going to treat with chemi clean to stop it right away as it can be harmful to the fish when it reaches higher levels like im seeing and its all about the well being of my livestock. There is nothing natural about what happens when running a aquarium most of those pests dont happen in nature and if the do the other organisms are so abundant that you would never notice so in a glass box human intervention is required to pick up the slack.

I know im in it for the long haul but if it works and not doing no harm then it works,ai is very accurate you just have to ask the right questions it sources information from every reputal source on the internet including comments and reviews to give the most accurate answers so idk what your talking about if ai is wrong about something i would be the first to point it out lol

When you’re done patting yourself on the back, start researching the livestock you intend to put in the tank. That first fish choice is terrible.
