This is my 30 gallon Red Sea nano reef tank. I've had it now for a year. The back sump area has an area for the nano fleece roller, which was an accessory item I purchased. the system came also w a little mini protein skimmer, and to the right of that in the sump is an area which you could put the standard 1.5 L plastic reservoir. Well I just purchased an auto ATO and used that saved space for a mini reactor. But the point of this post is, I just got this idea to remove the nano fleece roller as I don't see what good those things are when you can just change your filter floss or socks every 10 days or so. instead I removed the fleece roller and created small refugium. I'm just wondering what others think, is the nano fleece roller a more valuable or useful use of limited area of space than the mini refugium?

if you obsess about bare bottoms and "clean" then fleece will help with that a fuge will not. if you need to breed pods safely for certain types of fish the fuge will and the roller will not. made for different purposes is the point.
