Yeah i dont think 40gal is considered as nano tho, 10 gal used to be really big for me.

I'm the same way. Nano to me means small, but, technically I think 5 gallons and under is a "Pico" and 5-40 gallons is considered a "Nano".

I'm working on a barebottom 10g SPS tank right now.

This is my 1 year old 13.5 EVO.

My system:
  • 13.5 EVO
  • AI Prime 16HD
  • Syncra Sicce 0.5
  • Nero 3
  • Tunze 5152 ATO
  • X1 Bluetooth Micropump
  • 3DOcean Media Basket
  • Kraken Reef Lid
My routine:
I do weekly 4-5 gallon water changes with natural seawater I collect nearby. I dose 3.1ml of All-For-Reef daily to hold Alk at 9 (+/- 0.2), Calcium at 420, and Magnesium at 1320. In the media basket I run floss, 2 nano bags of Chemi Pure Blue, and 2 fluval bio media bags. Just some rubble and mangroves (for aesthetics) in Chamber 2.

Very nice system! These 13.5g systems are very popular in the hobby.

Thanks! I like the bare bottom and all SPS look of yours. If I were to start over, that's how I'd do it.

The EVO is a nice affordable little package with tons of upgrade and customization options. It's been a great reintroduction to the hobby after 5 years out.

What settings do you run Nero 3 at ? I have same tank, same return pump and power head.
struggling with a surface film issue and so the Nero is pointed towards surface but is pumping something crazy like 1000gph.
What you think ?

These are mine. I think the peak flow is somewhere around 1250gph which isn’t an issue for the fish and coral in my tank.

I had the same issue with film on the top of the tank. Pointing one of the return nozzles to the surface helped, but the big thing for me was making sure that the water level dropped slightly from the display through the overflow into chamber 1. I used the 3DOcean media basket which really helped get the water churning through the overflow too. If the water level in chamber 1 matches the display, the scum would sit on the surface. A skimmer would help this too, but I don’t want to put one in this little tank.
