I bought a aquaready 1.5 hob skimmer and I was told that it would fit my 75 aqueon tank. But the tanks brace is too big and I don’t know what to do. I managed to just put it on the top of the brace but the outlet tube isn’t fully submerged in the water, which I assume is causing it to overflow everywhere. I need help please.

Cut the lip of the brace, thats what I do for my hob filters Use scissors or wire cutter to cut twice where you want it, then bend the lip back and forth until it comes off.

I tried using scissors but the plastic is too thick. I will buy a wire cutter and see if that will help.

should I get a wire cutter or a box cutter?
IMO (and how I have done it in the past), box cutter. Clean cuts. With a wire cutter/snips, its a little bit of a hassle especially when you have to cut across the frame. On the long side,(glass frame side) deep score several times and should snap off. You may also heat the blade and just melt and cut the overhang.

I have had same problems but with lights. Can you send pictures? I am sure that I can help. I would not start cutting into the as you call it brace. I have used simple fixes with stuff off amazon very little money

OP....I stand corrected. I looked a little bit into this, and the cut out won't make a difference as the 1.5 is designed to sit on the molding, max width 3/4".....so, just extend your outlet pipe for your initial water issue..
