I've tried putting a siphon break in every spot imaginable and it still siphons when the brute can is full. Any ideas on how to stop the siphoning, besides doing an air gap type setup. Here's some pics for reference, the ATO container is the brute can and the sump is below it to the left. I use an avast marine ATO with an aqualifter pump .

You need a persitaltic pump which acts as a check valve when not in operation. The rollers pinch the tube shut when they aren't rotating and provide a positive shutoff. Thats one of the beauties of the Spectrapure UPLC-II ATO system along with its multiple fill rates, modes of operation and levels of back up safety. You get what you pay for.

[HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG] might have a few ideas. The problem is that the water is above the tank so you make a gravity siphon every time you pull water out

Agreed. A peristaltic pump will be the best and easiet solution.

That would be one way to do it. But I would like to make it work with what I have now. Just curious, do you work for spectrapure? lol. You've helped me a lot in the past with RO/DI stuff and you always mention spectrapure, so that's the filters I run!

Try a 1/4 x 3/8 x 3/8 "T" the way you have it plumbed now. The 1/4" T you have now is too small to let the air break the siphon. A larger line on the air break and after the T will at least let you use your current pump.

Same thing happened on both my tanks... Gravity is present here in Alabama as well. Ran my fill lines to the displays instead of the sumps...above the ATO containers.

A peristaltic pump is the best way to handle it. However, if you want to make due with what you have, you need to get the output line of your ato pump higher than the water line in the reservoir (brute can).

So raise the output line higher than the brute can. Then run a piece of pvc pipe from the higher output line down to your sump. In effect, you are creating a conduit, or gutter if you will, for the top off water to run in to the sump. I had the same issue and this worked like a charm.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Agree with @dbl That's the easiest way to take care of your siphon issue. I like CPVC 1/2 inch pipe for this....it's small and easy to work with. Just make sure the tube feeding the pipe is high than the water level in the Brute. Less than ten dollars and you're fixed.

A simple solenoid will stop the siphon as well. That's what I use and pretty cheap insurance I think

Thanks all for your help, I moved the aqua lifter above the brute can, changed out to rigid, RO/DI type hose for the siphon break line and moved the T right next to the aqualifter above the brute can. Seems to be good so far. I like the idea of a solenoid and a peristaltic pump, but like I said I want to make it work with what I have, at this point I'd rather put money towards livestock. The PVC, air gap/gutter setup is what i'm trying to avoid as I don't think I would like how would it look. Putting the fill tube into the display would definitely work, but like someone mentioned above, the display is on the other side of the wall. A peristaltic pump is definitely on my future list of upgrades. It would look a lot better too without hosing going all over the place.
