I don’t have to ask Do I quit or start over because my tank seems to always be in start over mode. I buy, they eventually die and I start over.
I’ve had a 90 Gallon tank with basement sump for many years. I’ve had the torches, hammers, montipora, birds nest, brain, chalice, frogspawn, various other LPS and additional SPS and I’ve managed to kill them all. What I can’t kill is gorgonians, GSP, Kenya Tree, Clove Polyps, bright orange zoa, dull pink/green paly’s.
Visitors are amazed and look at it as the show piece of our living room
That’s because they don’t have a clue what others have and what I’ve seen on R2R!
This site has been a lifesaver (shout out to vetteguy53081 post on kleini butterfly for aiptasia
). and an inspiration time and time again.
So that’s why I’m back at it and asking for help- I want a reef tank that I think is a showpiece. Right now, I see a few corals, nothing too exciting to my eyes. I don’t hate what I have, I’ve learned to love them because I’ve kept them alive
Here’s most recent parameters:
Ph. 8.3. - stable
Calc. 456. - runs 456 - 468
Alk. 7.5 (bringing this up to 8 now), I have tried 7.5-9.5 range over last 2 years.
Nitrate. 3.3 - 2025 range (Jan - Aug 8.2-28, sept - now highest has been 8.7)
Phos .59 - 2025 range .13 - .82, reads .40-.66 the most
Sg 1.026. - stable
Mg. 1260 - seems a little low , 2025 range 1340 -1575
Temp 77-78. - stable
Testing done with Hanna checkers, Sg tested with Milwaukee
Livestock - Old Hippo tang, yellow tang, kleini butterfly, potter’s Angel, Melanurus wrasse, crabs & snails. The sump houses a tomato clown
Run skimmer 24/7
Chaeto in sump - kessil grow light opposite tank light
Tank lighting - (2) kessil ap9x with (2) Reefbrite XHO Actinic on front and back.
Pumps - (2) Octo Pulse 4 Opposite ends - Hydros controller set to LPS reef
I believe the parameters need to be more stable, would love to hear ideas on where you keep your parameters to keep alive and thrive those corals that I can’t (at the moment!).
Thanks!
