I need your opinion on what style of tank would look best here. I’ve been planning a 72”x40”x26” peninsula, but a few people have mentioned that it extends too far out into the room. The alternative would be the same dimensions, but just standard style tank with the overflow against the long wall. What do you think?

I'm right-handed. This looks like it would be a tough place to stand and work on the tank from; I'd probably feel cramped over time, and it might even be hard not to splash the wall. If not even sure that is an optimal viewing angle.

Make an aquarium coffee table? Get rid of the tank stand and put the tank on the floor between the two couches where the little circular table is. Or rotate it 45ish degrees and put it against the wall on the right side of the room.

The wall that it’s on is about 75”, so I can rotate it 90 degrees on the same wall if I decide to.

If I have the long end on the same wall, with a 40” wide tank, it could be awfully difficult to reach the back center of the tank.

Yes that's the problem, reaching the back. Plus you'll want it about 6" off the wall to give you room for overflows and plumbing. Once you get that sucker in place there's no moving it. Nice thing about a peninsula, if you can pull it off, is you get 3 tanks/views in 1. One note, i would add 2 more vertical supports w/feet. You should have at least 1 (2 is better) dedicated 20amp receptacles on the wall. Nice stand btw, did you build it yourself?

Yeah, that would be the trade-off. But I'd probably go with the more traditional placement (90 degree turn), and plan on reaching the back from a step stool-- from each end and some long tongs you should be able to reach the middle, 1/2 way from the right and left end of the tank. (I'd scape the dead center so there's not much there that ever needs to be fooled with but rock up against the rear glass.) Harder to explain than I have in my head. Lol 😀

Thanks for your input. I need to get the electric upgraded. Yes, I built the stand using 80/20 extrusion from tnutz. I considered adding 2 more vertical posts, but the research I did said it wasn’t necessary. The way I have the corner posts situated has both the short side and long side resting on it…although I’m not a structural engineer.

Thanks. I’m kind of leaning towards keeping it a peninsula mainly due to the center being difficult to reach. If rather not have wasted space in the middle.

What do you think of it being between the posts ? it would be the center piece , and no one could ignore it. It seems to be an add on where it is . Or even in the hallway to the right that is out of the photo. Or what is there where you are standing . Don't like that location at all

My personal opinion but viewing the aquarium in that position will look distorted & will not be enjoyable. It would be difficult to get a clear, wide lovely view of all the animals. Like Jumboshrimp, 90° would give you the best view, any guests would get an immediate view of the aquarium from any angle within that room without distortion. Again, my $0.02. Good luck

To bad. I used to be in Hvac and a finished ceiling is nice but non functional even for repairs . You still can do it if you know someone who does drywall. Whatever you do I would not put the tank in that spot. It absolutely ruins the room
