We will be looking to add an anemone to our new tank sometime in the next few months. The one in this picture is one we had in the past, and would like to get the same. When we obtained that one I had ordered an LTA. We were delivered this, and I always suspected it was heteractis crispa, but I'm terrible on anemone ID. We also didn't care as it thrived and grew well and was roughly nine years until we had to tear down and sold it along with the clown. It was also directly under a 250w DE metal halide and we now have Radions. Any ID help would be great though :) Even if it is an LTA and I am nuts!

Yep, definitely crispa, and though it was a good experience for you, I'd say maybe not limit yourself, lots of other cool options as well depending on clown species you plan to keep.
It's kinda nice to have a natural match to clown species.

Yeah..... Before we got to the point of getting one I was going to talk to the wife more on changing the type of clown and coming back here for better options. I know we got really lucky with that pair. Marital dispute though, lol. I want something that primarily likes the sand so if it wanders at least it's not "as likely" to wander up. On the other hand, no matter what clown options I show she is always set on A. ocellaris. I can't blame her though, since it's also my favorite even if I'm not us stuck on them.

Would a true perc have better odds? I could likely sell her on that, lol. Working on Clarkii as an option still with only "ummm" in reply :) Thanks for the input!!

Crispa is a natural host for percula, but not ocellaris, not that it can't accept it over time, just may take longer.

No sand dwellars natural for occs, but I've had occs and percs both take to LTA and Malu even though both are not natural, and while I like both of those sand dwellars a lot, and prefer sand dwellars in mixed reefs usually for reasons you mentioned, I slightly prefer malu, smaller, brighter colors, most clowns accept easily it seems.

Clarki's, much like maroons, will take quickly to most any host given
