If you wanna setup a cold water system, yea you could keep them.
there’s a couple of cold water reef suppliers, most in the PNW area

I would have loved to but they were in a protected area so I just visit often . They are thriving there!

They ranged from really tiny ones ~half an inch to ~4 inches for the bigger ones!

I used to see those when I lived in San Diego. LaJolla tide pools and also down by Point Loma I believe.

Is it still very illegal to take anything out of the ocean there?

Anthopleura xanthogrammica, or the giant green anemone. Easy to keep if you can maintain temperate water temperature. (My old temperate tank circa 1985.)

Washington beaches to see a ton: Second Beach, Shi Shi, nearly anyone with close-in haystacks/tidepools.

I have a bunch of pics from those beaches somewhere, if I can find them, I'll post some.
