The Bubble Magus roller filter is working well. The water is polishing up very nicely. Here is a picture with the lights off.

Today I also starting up my skimmer. I’ve left it off until now to really let the bacteria additive (Dr Tim’s One and Only) flow through the system and establish itself.

You need some water in that tank..... ;) looking good!
Haha. Thanks. You know, I’ve never been big on mechanical filtration. When I used to scuba dive, the water always had suspended particulate. So I figured it was natural and was good with that.
But the idea of automated filtration where I only have to change out a roll every 6 weeks or so……that’s attractive. And the super clear water is very nice too.

I picked up a couple of corals yesterday. A really pretty cataphilia elegance coral with neon green middle, pinkish tentacles and blue/purple tips.
And a Lobo LPS. It’s orange with purple along the edges and teal mouth.

I also got a few big turbo snails to clean the rocks up a little. Since the glass box and stand are new, its doing a mini cycle. But those snails are really going to town….even if they’re a little clumsy.
Today I got my third Hydra 32 HD. So now I can finish the lighting and sell my old Prime HDs.

Good news! I fixed my Apex power bar. The capacitors I ordered from mouser.com came today and it took me about an hour and a half to replace the 4 old ones on the 12 volt power supply board. So I saved myself $300. It was a little tedious but doable. Thank you FixReef on YouTube for sharing your knowledge.
My cord management is still a little messy. I will address it further when I have some time.
My makeup water is in a 5 gallon bucket for now. But I plan on buying a nicer reservoir at a later date.

I was able to finish the light bar (paint clear coat) and install the third Hydra 32. So lighting is complete. If one day I become a stick-head, I may add a forth. But the third light made a big difference….the light spread is really nice and shadows are greatly reduced. Oh…I also lowered the lights about 1” by using longer screws. So they are about 13” above the water now.

I finished (mostly) my covers today. Aluminum screen door kit with 1/4” clear netting. I want to buy a couple of those feeding portholes to make feeding easier. Please excuse the picture quality, those covers are hard to photograph.

I had a population explosion of aiptasia in the previous tank. And the file fish in the picture cleared them all out in 5-6 weeks. The first two weeks he didn’t even look at them. Then I started noticing less and less of them until there were none left. Funny thing is, not once did I actually see him eat one.
A good cover is a must though because when startled, they really jump.

This looks fantastic! You did a bang-up job on that cabinet! Totally looks like the Red Sea style, but probably a fraction of the cost. I'm right down the road from ya in Citrus Heights, hoping to get my 180 up within the next month

Thank you! I’ve got about $500 or so into the cabinet; so, much cheaper than buying a name brand.
A 180 sounds nice. Make sure you let me know if you start a build thread so I can follow.
You live close to Aquarium Depot. I like going in there. But I just heard about another nice store in Rocklin that I’d like to check out.

Yup, I'm only about 5 minutes from there. They do a great job trying to keep healthy fish in there. Hopefully I can start a thread, but I've gotta work in the time for it. In the meantime I'm gonna enjoy all your hard work!

Nice looking build! how are you liking the filter roller? I can't seem to find any information on it or what the difference is between the old bubble magnus and the new one.
